today I learnt snowman constuction = not good for back and hamstring injuries.

I once pulled my bicep lifting a large snowball (pretending it was an Atlas Stone)!!!

Well done on your log PB. A decade ago that would have been a respectable weight in World's Strongest Man!
» Novice/u105 strongman comps (Go to post)27-01-2009 @ 19:30
Yes, a novice comp would be your best intro.

The 2 most important gym lifts in terms of max strength are dead lift and push press.

The weights used in u105 comps are heavier than those in novice comps. The dead lift in the southern qualifier for ESM u105 is 220Kg, and that is on the light side really. There will be quite a few guys doing 10+ reps.

It is a GREAT sport to be involved in.

Keep working on your gym strength, get yourself access to strongman kit, and put your name down for a novice comp!

i also remember mark illiffe was not a great deadlifter either.

330Kg.

His best assets were his athleticism and his grip.

2" Axle Clean + Strict Press

120KG x f clean (x2)

That is surely meant to say PUSH press??

Good lifting, JC. I've just bought a thick bar - great new toy!

No mate, tis right, strict press. I can strict press 115 quite comfortably now!!

I would have done 120 if I'd cleaned the bas***d!

How is the build up for the Southern qualifiers going?

Wow, that is VERY good. The most I've strict pressed is 101 barbell and 105 log.

My brute strength is slightly better than it was in last year's BSM u105, but I've been neglecting event training lately. Need to remedy this situation!

Did you clean 115 in one movement?

The official date for this comp is Sunday 3rd May. Start time - 11am.

Pint, can I officially put my name down for the intermediate class please. My family live not far from Guildford. They've never seen me compete before (only on video!).

Look after your knees, JC!!! More rest and less impact stuff! Cutting down on yoke/farmer's won't make you weaker at them!

Well done on the log PB, Will. My pressing is a bit hit-and-miss at the moment. I'm expecting delivery of a 2" bar tomorrow, so I can start training axle.

A 230 dead lift is respectable, as is a 180 unequipped squat.

Great pressing Will.

Have you tried a double dip technique on the log?
