I don't watch it. Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

I do power cleans for explosion.

As usual though, I'm sure you know best.

I'm experienced enough to know how my body reacts to training. I've done rep work (and even bicep curls Eek ) in the past. I've found what works for me. As I've said before - I'm progressing (at a rate I'm happy with) and I'm managing to avoid injury. I'm happy with that.

I know you're a BIG puller, and the things you're saying are valid. I'm sure you'll agree though that different things work for different people.

Do you want a race to 130? Happy

Back strength should be allowed to 'mature' at its own rate and not 'forced'.

Would you mind elaborating?

I know what I mean, but I'm struggling to elaborate!

What I'm trying to say is - my back is primarily a vital part of my body that I need in working order for everyday life. Car lifting etc is a secondary function! A bit of care should be exercised with regard to back training. Striving for speedy results with a vulnerable structure like the human back could potentially be very harmful. Develop slowly!

Sorry - that's a crap reply I've given you!

Wayne after 3 doubles at 85%, your back would be fine a few days later, no?

Doubles at 85% wouldn't be taxing enough for strength training purposes.
» 5'4" and proud of it! (Go to post)28-04-2010 @ 15:39
Performing a sufficiently taxing number of reps with, say, 85% of my 1RM would require a longer recovery than pulling 1 near-max single.

I need to keep dead lifting volume down to a minimum, otherwise it affects my other training. I need to work on log, farmer's, stones, etc. There's a lot of back work involved in that stuff.

Dead lift isn't a priority for me at the moment. Yes, my standard dead lift isn't great, but I do tend to perform quite well at dead lift variations that crop up in comps.

However, I am intending to get some more volume in on farmer's dead lifts. These don't give me anywhere near the same recovery issues. In the past I've done a stint of just these, and then pulled a PB on standard oly bar dead lift.

Back strength should be allowed to 'mature' at its own rate and not 'forced'.

A volcano erupts, no flights are running, your stranded with your wife and 2 kids in Spain for a week
You cannot access your ISA/you need a weeks notice for getting cash out.......
Your kids cant stay on an airport floor for a week. I'll take the CC thanks

That's an extreme example.

I was referring more to everyday life - the "stick it on the credit card" attitude, leading to "s**t, I'm in debt".

What's wrong with good old-fashioned "saving up" for things?

I don't have a credit card and have no intention of ever having one.

Live within the budget that you have.

If it had been set to the correct height (more ground clearance) then there wouldn't have been a problem. If he'd lost balance he'd have dropped it and needed to lift it again before moving on.

No deliberate sliding there. The yoke wasn't set to the right height. Shouldn't be a penalty, in my opinion. I've seen far worse!

Three to five sets of doubles or triples at 235 working up to 245 over the next month or two would probably make a lot of difference.

I'd be a permanent physical wreck and only able to train once a week!! Dead lifts give me quite bad recovery problems.

Would you like some advice?

Nah. I think I'll stubbornly carry on training incorrectly.

Nice explosive lifting, Ken! I didn't see any double dips.

BigKen said:
at Worlds they weren't allowed to double dip either.

Yes they were! Gary Taylor was double dipping!

whats your deadlift max?

An unimpressive 261 (done on an axle). Standard height seems to be my weakest position!

Felt ill, but still went to the gym.

POWER CLEANS

70 x 2
70 x 2
100 x 2
110 - fail
110 x 1, failed 2nd (the 1st one flew up, and I pulled it a lot higher than needed!)
110 - fail
110 x 1

Confused A 110 power clean is normally a certainty.

STRICT PRESS (power clean at start of each set)

70 x 3
100 x 2

PUSH PRESS (continental clean at start of each set)

110 x 2
122.5 x 2
125 x 2

DEAD LIFTS

150 x 1
190 x 1
230 x 1
250 x 1

I had planned to squat, but didn't feel up to it. Gay.
