» Starting Strongman - My training log (Advice and tips appreciated) (Go to post)24-07-2012 @ 18:25
Had a very poor training session today my elbow hasnt healed enough to over head press any kind of weight without it causing severe pain, this is what i managed today:

TUESDAY - SHOULDERS - 24/07/2012

MACHINE SHOULDER PRESS - Fail (Cant press without being to painful)

SEATED MACHINE SHOULDER PRESS - 5 X 6: 30kg, 30kg, 30kg, 30kg, 30kg.

SIDE RAISES - 3 X 12: 10kg, 10kg, 10kg.

FRONT RAISES - 3 X 12: 10kg, 10kg, 10kg.

UPRIGHT ROWS - 3 X 12: 40kg, 40kg, 40kg.

After this point morale was to low and the pain was to much.

Im going to re-evaluate my routine and change it round so i can keep training im going to lower the weight and make the reps a lot higher and keep the leg training heavy until my elbow is a lot better.

Done a very light workout to see how pressing would feel on my elbow, still slightly tender but got alot more movement back and alot of the swelling has gone.

Chest session tomorrow and some light cardio.

Yeah best to get it checked early iv ended up leaving mine for 2 years, now im having to deal with it but with it being a lot more severe.

Yeah i keep it light on EZ bar depending how the nerve feels.

Fingers crossed that the injury dont stop me before iv even started my attempt at strongman lol

Good luck with the recovery and with your training and thannks for the advice.

Yeah i got checked for carpel tunnel and had physio on the wrist but because of the nerve when i done the physio on the wrist it would cause the nerve to flair up.

Iv had an MRI done on the wrist but they dont tell you anything until its gone to a radiographer and i had nerve testing done which is no fun at all sending loads of electric shocks through your arm and hands by a woman who i think only spoke a couple words of english and just smiled every time she shocked me lol.

Im hoping to find out in september what course of treatment they are going to take im just a little concerned as iv put my name down for my first comp and im on the reserve list for October.

Do you compete or did you have surgery done and if so what kind of impact has it had on your training also length of recovery before you were more or less back to full training.

I was wondering if anyone has suffered from an ulner nerve injury and if so what kind of treatment did you receive, length of time out of training and if it causes any problems now.

I have the problem with my left wrist its on the out side of my wrist between my hand and the wrist bone, iv also been informed that iv lost about 10 percent rotation.

It makes gripping a flat bar more or less impossible which can be a problem training bi's even using an EZ bar can be painfull more or less like an electric shock through my hand but i dont have this problem hammer curling. Iv also had to change my deadlift grip to both overhand.

Im back at the docs in September and hopefully they can finally give me the full diagnosis and form of treatment required but as expected its been a very long drawn out process.

Sorry for the rant but any information would be greatly appreciated

Going to do a light back and bi's session tomorrow and see how that goes not expecting to much though.
