Hi mate love reading your journal very inspiring.

How did you get your shoulders so strong? It's my weakest part and I really want log press 120+kg in 2013 so any advice would be great Happy

Southampton's Strongest Man 1st Dec 2012 write-up
Felt good going into the competition, no injuries and had been training well in the run up.

overhead medley
Did the 45kg fat handle dumbbell nice and easy. Picked up the keg the wrong way round so made a hash of it but it went up first go. Tried the big log in one motion next but didn't get it (have done in the gym). Went into the small log and got it second time, just before the time ran out. Joint 7th.

Deadlift
Knew it was just a case of going as fast as possible and trying not to have any rests. First rep I picked it and put it down before being given the signal so it wasn't counted. After that I got to about 10 without a break. Then did another 4, then another 3. Good event, 7th place.

Yoke
Wanted to do this in one go. Picked it up and started walking but it was slow going and ended up dropping about half way and then again about 1 meter from the line. Never done this weight before so at least I finished the course. ~10th place.

Tyre Carry
Saw a few guys go and get between 40 and 80 meters. I picked it up and it was easy to lift. After 50 meters the left grip started going. After 60 decided to drop it and conserve energy for the atlas stones. I really wish I'd done another 20 meters at least as it felt really easy and could've gained me a place. ~10th place.

Atlas stones
Going in I felt confident and decided the tactic was to get the first 4 up quickly then re-tacky and try the 5th stone (no ambition to even try the 160kg 6th stone). 7 competitors had been before me and no one had got the 5th stone up. I got the first 4 up in 22 seconds nice and easy so was already in the lead. Got the 5th stone up after putting more tacky on in 55 seconds so was very pleased. Most of the remiander got the the 160kg stone up though but still happy. 6th place.

Overall 8th place out of 16. Really pleased but wish I'd tried a bit harder on the tyre carry.
