When are you going to go for a new 1rm on deadlift then?

I've just been talking to Adam about this actually and it is a definite possibility once I'm back up to full strength.

Training 07/01/2013

Squats

60 x 3
80 x 3
100 x 2
120 x 1
Belt on
140 x 1
160 x 1 (This felt like a max so left it there)

Power snatch

Bar x 6
40 x 2
50 x 1
50 x 1
55 x 1
60 x 1

Shrugs (strict) DOH to start

60 x 5
100 x 5
Add straps
140 x 8
160 x 8
170 x 12

Squats were terrible today especially seeing as 160 felt like a max. Snatch was off today but I think that it was due to not having done them in a while so technique was a little off. Shrugs were actually really good but they are only an assistance exercise. I think that the reason that today's session was so bad is that my dissertation is due in for 15th so stress is at an all time high. Hopefully after that I will be back to normal again.

someone better placed may correct me, but my opinion is that high elbows is bad on push press.
i like the forearms to be straighter or at least in the direction you want to push the bar.
the people ive seen push press with elbows high (andy and sophie in particular) lose their wrists as soon as they dip. That happened to you there. This is inefficient and makes you fight the bar when trying to impact force upon it

Andy said that to me but he did also say that he found it harder when his elbows were directly under the bar. I have to say it did feel better up until the 90kg press. I will decide next session which technique I prefer.

Normally I don't have my elbows any where near as high. I thought I would try and use the same technique as I would in a jerk but for the push press. Mixed results really.

Training 06/01/2013

Bench press

Bar x 15
60 x 2
80 x 2
100 x 1
110 x 1
120 x 1
125 x 1

Push press

Bar x 8
40 x 3
60 x 2
70 x 1
80 x 1
90 x 1

For a first session in 4 weeks, today wasn't too bad. Bench press was as expected, a little down but nothing too drastic. I will be repping it from next session. On the push press I was trying a new technique. I was gripping the bar in the same place but getting my elbows up a lot higher. It worked very well until the 90kg when the bar slipped forward a bit. I am undecided as to whether or not it works better than my previous technique. I will go back to my old technique next time and see which I prefer.

Nice pb's, a good start to the year

Nice triple pb on your squats. I'm still confused as to how you couldn't unrack the 165 though.

Looks like a pretty solid session despite the lack of motivation.

Thanks Bill. This video put to rest any worries I had about my squat depth.

Training 10/12/2012

Squats

60 x 3
80 x 2
100 x 1
120 x 1
Belt on
140 x 1
160 x 1
177.5 x 1
195 x 1 (pb)

Bench press

Bar x 12
60 x 3
80 x 2
100 x 1
110 x 1
120 x 1
110 x 5

Some ridiculous triceps exercise Brownbear made me do.

I was very pleased to get a squat pb in today. Benching was a little disappointing but I'm going to put that down to being a bit tired after the squatting. I think that this will be my last session for 3 or 4 weeks as I'm back home as have various things to do which will unfortunately take up a lot of my time and are definitely more important than lifting. Not a bad way to end the years training I guess hitting a pb squat eh!

Training 07/12/2012

Jerks from rack

Bar x 6
40 x 2
60 x 2
70 x 1
80 x 1
90 x 1
100 x 1 (=pb)
105 x 1 (pb)
110 x f (only just missed it though)

Deadlifts

60 x 4
100 x 2
140 x 1
Belt on
180 x 1
215 x 1
180 x 3
180 x 3

Extremely happy with how today's session went. A pb jerk to start off with and only just missed the 110 as I didn't get under quite quickly enough but should be there next time I attempt it. The 215 deadlift is the heaviest I've done since October so I'm very happy about that and it was a good clean rep without any hitching. I was tempted to push for a pb as I thought there was a possibility of it being there but was told not to. Instead I did 2 sets of 3 reps of 180kg, all of which were quality reps.
» what did you have for tea? (Go to post)05-12-2012 @ 22:17
Tonight's tea was a very healthy 10 pack of frankfurters with a generous serving of mayonnaise and 2 litres of chocolate milk.

Training 05/12/2012

At Warley

Power clean and jerk

Bar x 3
40 x 3
40 x 3
60 x 2
60 x 2
70 x 1
70 x 1
70 x 1
80 x 1
80 x 1
90 x 1
100 x f
100 x f

Hang power clean. First rep from the hip and second from just below the knee

60 x 1,1
60 x 1,1
70 x 1,1
75 x f,1

Saying that I felt like crap this session would be a hell of an understatement. It was just never going to happen today. Just one of those days I guess. I'm very much looking forward to a day off tomorrow.
