I train there with paul on sundays and its usally just me colin paul and will. But we had a nice suprise when big terry and jimmy showed up on sunday. The cell has alot of people training there on saturdays so we train on sundays so we dont get in anyones way. Terry and jimmy are looking in top form for the worlds this year. If you can get down to the cell for a session i would highly recomend it. i travel 240 miles every sunday to train there and it has improved my strength massivly.

» August Back holiday Novice comp in Reading (Go to post)31-08-2009 @ 14:38
First of all i would like to thank everyone who competed yesterday!! everyone gave it 100%. Johns deadlift was very impresive and i think he would have pulled the 400kg as he looked very comfortable in all of his lifts. the stand out performances for me were the 3 young lads that competed, The 2 lads that came down from the olympic gym put in an epic performance considering there body weight and george from the basement. Ironworx rich is another one for us to look out for as he is thinking of dropping to 105kg. for his first comp he looked impresive. i could go on all day as i was amazed with everyones effort. Well done to you all

Nice result Simon

Re Paul, he is a strong strong f**ker no doubt. I think BSM will be a little more competitive than UKs though as I can see a few guys beating him on the log and DL at least

I could be wrong though, it has happened many times before!! Roll-Eyes

That may be so, but the thing with paul is he has no weakness, he may not win the deadlift or log but he will be consistant and thats what wins comps. There is no dout that he will have to work hard at the britains as this is where the best of the best will be. I no i will not beat him this year as he is still to good for me. I just want to finish above 6th place this year and try to beat some guys who i have not beaten before.

True mate, he is very consistent all round.

Have a word with him about those painted toes mate Roll-Eyes Wink Hope you haven't started lol

Mate the ladys at this last comp were all over him, they loved his painted nails. I was in shock that he got all the attention and i got f**k all lol they were a nice shade of blue

it was a really nice day and alex Hunter who finished second is a lovely bloke to. he was the 2008 south east strongest man and if you can remember back to 2002 he competed in britains strongest man and many other top comps over the years. lovely bloke and very helpfull

WHAT WERE THE WEIGHTS AND EVENTS MATE FOR THE OPEN?

it was a light comp for an opens comp. it seems like the weights in 105 comps keep going up but open comps seem to stay the same. saying that' the 440kg tyre fooking killed me.

The events in running order were-
1. 110kg fat handle farmers for 40 meters
2. 440kg tyre flip for 20 meters. it took 11 flips to get the 20 meters, thought i was having a hart attack at the end of it lol. finished 2nd on this so was well happy.
3. 245kg deadlift for reps, with the worlds skiniest s**tist bar. I lost a masive callus doing this and so did 5 other guys.
4. Overhead pressing medley, 120kg skiney log, 70kg dumbell, 100kg railway sleeper. me and paul wood were the only ones to press all 3 items. 2nd place for me again.
5. Atlas stones, 90kg,120kg,140kg,150kg,160kg.

there was nine guys in the opens, only no the top 4 but will post full results if i can get them. there was a novice comp also with about 30 guys competing. There were about 7 novices from the cell which all looked very solid as you can imagine, with terry hollands training them. The event was held in a holiday park so the crowd was massive. A great day and a great laugh in the athletes tent.
Opens top 4 were-

1st Paul wood
2nd Alex Hunter
3rd Paul 'cuddles' carter
4th Simon Cowdrey

Again paul was on fire winning all but one event. Every time i compete and train with him i just get blown away as he never stops getting better. One thing he did on the day that stood out for me was on the pressing medley, we had to press a 120kg thin log then a 70kg dumbell followed by a 100kg railway sleeper. when paul got to the dumbell he snatched the thing like it was nothing. Me and paul were the only guys to lift all 3 items. I will post some pics up as soon as possible and full results

im always moving up jason, i am doing the south east strongest man open comp this saturday with paul wood which should be fun, it will be nice to see how i get on against some top strongmen. I train with paul every week now and it seems to be paying off. Im hoping to try and beat paul next year but he just seems to be getting better and better as well. Hope your training is going well mate and your injuries are getting better.
