Post Edited: 03.09.2012 @ 16:31 PM by rabn21 IMO there was bits of blame to go round. Maybe blame is the wrong word but I don't think you can definitely point to one thing that caused this.Could the spotters have done better, IMO yes, but it is not in our nature to do everything perfect 100% of the time no matter how much we might try. If the spotter is alert but has not being trained to spot properly that is just as bad as being trained to have hands clasped under the bar but have a momentary distraction. Should there have been a doctor/paramedic at the competition? Yes. Was there one there? I don't know for sure but someone mentioned in this thread or elsewhere that there wasn't. Should the lifter have attempted this weight after by all accounts a similar thing happening in the warmup room? That is a hard one to answer as only the lifter would know has this been an issue in the past in training or whether he thought this was a fluke occurance. At the end of the day when you choose to lift in the gym competition or anywhere there will always be risks involved no matter what the setup. Should there have been safety rails on the bench? Yes but it is easy to say yes that this should be standard in hindsight but is this a realistic financial possibility for every competition organiser? Any one of these points were changed and he may have lived but equally there is nothing to say absolutely if all those were in place that the lifter would definietly have survived as it happened so fast. I just hope that this is not repeated anytime in the future. Really sad to see. RIP fellow lifter

Foam rolled the hell out of it. Well my current foam roller is actually hard plastic pipe - does the same job just much harsher lol
