Your deadlift doesn't need to be anywhere near 300kg to do well in a novice comp', squat doesn't have to be over 200kg either. My static lifts were not at that level when I started competing and I haven't embarrassed myself (yet). One of the guys I train with isn't anyhwhere near those numbers having only been training a couple of years but he has a natural affinity for strongman events; 450kg tryre x 5 flips after a couple of weeks strongman training, farmers walk 2x125kg x 25m on his first night attempting them, 115kg sandbag chucked onto shoulder for a 40m jog, decent at stone lifting etc...

Post Edited: 05.01.2009 @ 16:32 PM by Ben_F Yeah, its Solid Andy, he knows he is in now.JC, I am not going to cap the numbers, if they get very high I will split the competitors into two groups, with one group doing an outdoor event while the other does an indoor static event then swop over with everyone coming to together for the fifth and final event indoors. However the earlier you can let me know the better. I'm not just saying this because i want you to do the comp' as I do reckon you should nail the U105s this year then move up into the opens - it worked for Darren Sadler!

It was great to finally get down to the famous Adlington Barbell Club and lift in such good company with such a supportive atmosphere. Great effort by everyone and thanks go to the organisers, loaders, scorers etc. That was the first time I have ever seen any olympic lifting "live", even more impressive than watching on the tv - and I was already impressed!

Also his Mrs will not let him get fat! I reckon 90kg, about 4 kg fat & 4kg lean tissue, is doable by about May if back in training in Jan and is an acceptable level of fat gain, given that he is looking for absolute strength rather than relative strength (with only strongman on the cards rather than powerlifting).

Ste, you are indeed a crazy strong mofo lb for lb, lets get you to 90kg, if you like you can keep a food diary and then I can look at it and tell you that you are not eating enough. Or if you prefer I can just text you every day and tell you that you are not eating enough!

The under 90k class was a big success and all the lads did extremely well, after talking to Bob Daglish we agreed that if the support and interest for the under 90 class continues then we at Elite shall be running a few more shows in 2009 (with the possibility of a national championships) . Big congratulations to our two winners Ben and Jason and will expect to see some of the top heavy weights doing well in the open events next year. Big thanks to all the athletes, Body FX Gym, my "crew" (Si, Adam, Paul, Rob, Laura and Joshua) and to all those who came to support the show!! Dave MT" |
