» Elite Strongman Under 90kg Englands Strongest Man (Go to post) | 30-01-2009 @ 11:43
A couple of thoughts... Some of the competitors will be around 70kg so maybe worth thinking of the average competitor as 80kg rather than someone like me or Tony dropping some weight to compete at 89.9kg. These comps have generated a lot of interest and could well benefit the sport as a whole in the long run. As stated, its a qualifier so the weights can go up significantly for the final, its a new thing so I am sure the organisers will make adjustments if they find they are required. The only clarification needed is whether it is Novice U90kg or open U90kg. With regard to the U105kg weights/events, I have worried they are too light but then there are two weight progressions to come for the England's & Britain's. Potentially (I realise the events will likely be different) you could end up at the Britain's with 110-120kg log, 240kg-260kg deadlift, 130kg farmers, 340kg yoke etc. So what we have started with makes sense to me. The qualifiers are attracting a good mix of experienced competitors and newcomers. Numbers are looking very good considering some didn't think there would be enough U105's to warrant the qualifiers, we'll see on the day if the weights are pitched right or not and take it from there, I am sure the same will be done with the U90s.

I weighed 103kg I could have lifted more in comps after the commonwealth game but I lost my motivation to train for Olympic lifting. Thanks for the reply Del! Why'd you lose motivation if you dont mind me asking? I heard you jerked 230kg (!?) off the rack in training. Unreal!!! I jerked 230 or about 2 weeks before the commonwealth games and just missed 240kg. After the commonwealth games things went very wrong! I lost my job and grant funding in the same week! I also had no where to train for about 3 or 4 months. So life was very crap in that period of time. That all changed when I went to train at Mark Cullimore's gym called Maximums at the time (now The gallery). We really look after our athletes in this country don't we?!

Ste, don't enter the comp' if your not ready mate. I appreciate the support but numbers are good anyway. Plus I don't want your Nic after me if your insides pop out during the yoke carry (which is fast becoming a yoke sprint after looking at JC's and Jonny's logs!). If you don't compete you can either officiate or be chief videographer or something. Might put another comp' on in the summer anyway with some very interesting events, you can do that one instead if you're not back to full strength by March. Would be good to see the dungeon boys at Mark's, see if anyone can load that 200kg beast!
