kirkynick said:Well done, massively strong! What comp you got lined up? How many competitors does the UK Master's usually get? Are you far and away the top dog there? Thanks mate. UK Masters is 5 weeks away... I still haven't decided if I am doing it. Usually 12 or so in the Masters as quite a few tend to drop out close to the comp'... old men get injured a lot I guess. No, I'm not top dog... Mark Lawson won last year and there potentially there are some really good competitors.

Hi Pete, I am not an expert but did complete my L4 Diabetes & Obesity course last year. Being "overweight" does not necessarily lead to diabetes but given that BMI is used for most studies and the general populations do not carry much muscle mass the link is clearly there between obesity & type 2 diabetes. If you train regualrly and eat well but are technically overweight on the BMI scale you will likely be fine... you can still create insulin resistance through your diet which may lead to diabetes but the chances are much lower. There is no need at all to eat a low fat diet, I expect that eventually the government/NHS will catch up on this and change their guidelines. Replacing processed carbs with natural fats would certainly be a good thing.

» Usefullness of Prilepins chart for powerlifting training? (Go to post) | 02-03-2015 @ 13:39
Post Edited: 02.03.2015 @ 13:43 PM by Ben_F I used it in preparation for my last comp' on (which was a strongman/powerlifting hybrid comp) on the bench, squat and log press and hit PB's on all of them.I used my training/everyday max for the calculations, ensured good form and aimed for decent bar speed. I aimed the optimum number of reps and just decided on the percentage to use based on how I was feeling, then as the comp' got closer used the higher percentages to get a feel of the heavier weights. I'm not into assistance exercises much, I just do stuff like band pulls to balance out the pressing and band press-downs and some speed work/jumps, but that is partly because I am old and struggle to recover. If I was just doing powerlifting I would definitely use be using it. |
