Cheers guys... I don't think I can do much more in strongman, at least without serious consequences to my health. Here is the link to the results: http://www.ultimatestrongestman.com/competitions/index.asp?ID=...

Sunday 30th August Belfast Masters World's Strongest Man Going into the contest I was aware of one event change which was 150kg farmers into drag x 15m being swopped for 1000lbs tyre flip x 10m into 150kg farmers x 10m. I wasn't overley optomistic of picking up 150 farmers after the tyre as it fries my forearms usually... needn't have worried as it was changed to Duck Walk Steeple Chase anyway. I was gutted by the next event change... 250kg Squat for reps which had been touted as a tyre squat, a barrel squat and a car squat turned into a truck pull... potentially my best and favourite event into one of my least favourite. The line-up was strong: Mark Felix - Grenada (nuff said!) Van Hatfield - USA (former America's Strongest Man and two-time Arnolds competitor, monster) Antanas Abrutis - Lithuania (reigning champ) Marcus Franke - Germany (one of the best in Germany, 3rd last year) Dale Peters - wales (3rd at UK's, massive potential!) Ben France - England (ginger to**er) Artur Walczak - Poland (Poland's best Master this year - big beast!) Odd Haugan - Norway (65 year old legend) Vladimir Kalinichenko - Russia (powerlifting champ & strongman, 5ft 9 & 150kg!!) Mark McLoughlin - England (2nd at UKs, 400kg deadlifter) David McArthur - Ireland (Irish Masters champ and all-round nice guy!) Alex Hunter - Scotland (called in with 3 days notice, not been training strongman for a long time, fair play for stepping up!) I was 118kg, the lightest in the field by about 7kg... not intentional, just struggled to add weight this year... I actually lost some near the comp'. Event 1: Duck Walk Steeple Chase - 200kg Duck 20m/20m with a plinth in the middle to go over... 4 at a time Was going well, in 2nd place not too far behind Mark Felix but at about 8m from end I "hit the wall"... has not happened for a long time... mind was willing but my body was not! Edged it a few metres further but could not finish it. Gutted and physically felt terrible... still felt awful going into the next event... neglecting onditioning cost me badly... 9th place. Event 2: Car Hold With Straps Head to head with Dale from Wales. I went down about 45 secs and Dale a couple of seconds later... 8th place or thereabouts. Event 3: Wooden Log Press for Max The log was massive! 16" or so uneven diameter... horrible to use, no hope of a PB on this beast. 100kg - good lift (but even this weight was unstable at the top!) 110kg - good lift 120kg - good lift 130kg - good lift (had to really grind it out) 140kg - no lift, no chance =6th place I think... Van Hatfield won with 150kg (new record), Felix & Dale tied for 2nd on 140kg. Stone of Strength: 160kg x reps over 48" yoke Everyone was struggling with this... Glenn's stones have a big diameter... people were saying it felt like 180kg and as I went up with Markus Franke the lead was just one rep. I was starting to physically feel better by this stage and felt confident of getting a few reps in as lower heights on stones suit me. I did 3 reps and Markus did 2. Nobody matched this until Felix went up against Van Hatfield which I think finished 7-6! 3rd place Truck Pull (with rope) 15m up a slight incline Hard to get going (bodyweight!!) but then ok... 38 secs and I think 7th place. I always find truck pull weird... like I can't put in any more effort than I am but then its over I feel like I could have done more. At least I beat Dale and Mark which for me put to bed the truck pull issues at the UKs. Flag Hoist Hard event, only big Sean O'Hagan completed the 5 at the UK's finals. I managed two in a reasonable time but not sure of exact placing, maybe 5-6th?? Waiting for the final placings I knew I had beaten the big Pole as I beat him head to head on the flags... this put me 6th after losing 5th to Dale on countback. 6th in the World is not too bad I guess but I wanted more even with the improved line-up... there are always event changes and I need to be better all-round prepared. I think qualifying will be really tough next year... will see how my body recovers before I commit to anything as it feels pretty beaten up at the moment (but no serious injuries).

Billytheold said:Hey what's up? Question? I was squatting yesterday and my groin popped my leg began to buckle I had no safety in rack and people were watching so I made the rep. I don't know how but I had a nightmare about being crushed. My adductor and leg is sore. Did you ever have that happen? Yeah, once, many years ago... rested, reduced loads and did some single leg work (leg press, lunges), did the job... was back to usual lifts in in a month.
