Great squatting and deadlifting mate.

JC...I doubt Craig will do the british or uk's as he generally only does comps held by the club he trains at(DAWC).

Mega strong all round, especially with squat and bench. Well done on the winning the title.

Competed at Alba West Bike shows Scotland's Strongest Team event on sat, teamed up with my mate Nik Thompson to make up team Umpa Lumpa. Typical scottish summer as it was wet and muddy so the comp was held in the beer tent. Grin

1st event - Overhead press medlay:

75kg stone (me)
90kg stone (Nik)
100kg Log (me)
110kg Log (Nik)
120kg Bar failed (me)
120kg Bar (Nik)
64kg inch d/b (shouldered but ran out of time) (Nik)

Decided that we'd just do an object each and tag each other in one at a time. Maybe not the best for speed but thought it the safest option. Annoyed I failed the 120 bar but I rushed it and never set up properly for it so rather than f**k about trying again just tagged Nik in as I new he'd do it quicker.
Think we were 3rd in this?

2nd Event - Rising bar deadlift:

200kg (me)
230kg (Nik)
260kg (me)
280kg failed (Nik)
280kg failed (me)

Same again just took the safer option and did one lift each. Combination of no warm up's and big jumps between lifts ie Nik going 230 to 280 meant failed lifts, the other teams were the same.
1st place in this I think?

3rd Event - Frame hold:

300kg x 36 odd secs (Nik)

Was supposed to be max frame carry but event was changed due to risk of injuries because of slippy(muddy wet grass)surface and also lack of space.
Only one team member was to do this so Nik done it as I'm still having bother with my injured finger....plus my grip is super crap anyway! haha
3rd place in this I think?

4th Event - Sweetie snatcher:

Event was dropped due to the slippy surface(muddy wet grass) and risk of injuries.

5th Event - Stones to Shoulder:

90kg (Nik)
100kg (Nik)
110kg (me)
122kg (me)
132kg failed but close(me)
132kg failed (Nik)
132kg failed (me)

Enjoyed this event the most as I've never done it in a comp before.
2nd in this I think?

Joint 1st overall but 2nd due to count back. Great fun day and all the teams were pretty equal and anyone could have won. Thanks again to Andy, Stainless and the rest of the team for putting on another fantastic comp and to the Alba West Bike Show organisers for making us feel welcome. Can't wait till next year!

31 now mate, should be a few decent years left Happy

Your one of the young ones in the scottish strongman scene.. the two Stuarts, Mike, Frank, Jnr etc are still going strong and they've got a few years on you. Grin

Some good young guys to come too, tom Parkes that will be doing the arnold qual is very strong and young, will be good to see him compete. Nick might give it a go next year, and he has huge potential, same for Ali Ingles when he switches from PL. All several years younger than me and much stronger. Lot of work to do, but its great for the sport. Strongman in Scotland had stagnated for too long, and I htink now we are gonna see some improvements again in the depth of talent.

Think you could still hold the young guys off for a few years yet, your not that old are you?

Well aslong as they don't bother with a weigh in then I'll be able to have my breakfast Grin . Was a big mistake of mine coming in too heavy at the u105's, thing is I was under 105 all week untill the day of the comp and I'd starved myself the day before just to make sure I made weight ok but ended up being 106kg the day off the comp???Confused . Lean and mean next year....if I can stay off the stella haha Tongue

I actually have a rough plan in my head all the way through to February and the Scottish Qualifier now. I think the standard will jump up accress the board in Scotland again for next year, so going to have to improve a lot just to stay the same.

Yeah think your right, the standard the last few years has really picked up pace with Ken and Stevie leading the charge forcing everyone else to up there game...I'm getting left further behind all the time haha.

Leggiez said:Strong squatting considering you were alone , i really struggle to motivate myself in an empty gym .

How come you had a 2 week break from training , were you away on holiday or did you just need some downtime ?

Cheers, I wasn't really alone though as had my dogs with me although they tend to get in the way and put me off...walking under the bar etc when I'm squatting haha.
Yeah was at the Isle of Man TT for a week and then last week was choked with the cold and night shift so just left training. I'm competing at the weekend at scotland's strongest team so you can guess how it will go with no training haha.
