yes basically mate i find doing full cleans then going on too front squats is a perfect warm up

the 'other' day could be

snatch balance (some call it over head squats) similar but with a jump of the legs
snatch
snatch pulls

** what i actually was trying to say about the amount of exercises you are doing was in simple terms it seemed a lot in one day to me, it maybe fine for you not doing many sets at this stage, if you are happy and you are improving carry on, if you start getting tired or technique going bad you will then know why ?

Cool! thanks mate! i will def apply some of that.

With regards to the amount of exercises basically it was the last week of uni, my exams were done and i was in need of some big sessions as i'd not been in the gym much due to library time. Also to help with my back problems i need to do a fair bit of posterior chain work (reverse hypers, pull throughs, ghr) which help loads and make up a fair bit of the training. Saying that the OL lifts will give my posterior chain a hell of a beasting too!

I plan to try and get some sort of structure to my training asap. Dont tell littler.

** how many times weekly would you suggest going OH in terms of jerking/any sort of pressing? Would you suggest any particular structure to it e.g 3x3 or jus go with the flow as i have been?

much appreciated

Nice powercleaning mate!

looked like a nice session overall - i may have to steal it!

Do you have a routine or just go with the flow?

Sorry Mishima? As a one off we can tolerate you spelling the word of god wrong, but to declare a distaste for Guinness is just evil. I normally welcome new members with a pic of a skankie council estate bird, but I fear such an image will be wasted on you. We'll monitor the log to see how things pan out, but any further blastphemy will result in a hate campaign and a possible fight with Matt griff AND Tony.Wink

I've really not had a good start have i - posting semi nude pics and insulting GuinNess. I'll prob last about as long as matt griff did on MT Grin

If your not gonna post a lady pic i'll just have to do so myself as it appears a journal is not complete here without -

thats the stuff!

As for getting your goons on me - tell them to bring it!

welcome to the 'otherside mate'

just looking at your routine is there a specific reason why you do them exercises ? seems a lot power clean, cleans, hang clean and jerk and jerks ????

personally i would choose one then go on to a couple of assistance exercises squats or pulls for example they are 'multi muscle' exercieses did you not feel very f**ked half way through

i not at all against doing any of these exercises, just makes more sense to me to do them on different days concentrating on that particular exercise

maybe doing a push press to warm up for full split jerks but nowt else

Hey mate!

Thanks for the advice i really appreciate it. TBh i have no set routine atm, as this is all very new to me im basically going to the gym with the intention of doing 1 lift e.g jerks and then adding in other stuff once im there. Im still kinda using the 2 upper/2 lower template i used to but its not really applicable to OL as the movements are total body ones.

Also the other thing atm is that ive just got home which means no easy access to an platform. So i'll need to work around that a bit. Hopefully gonna get my ass to "fitlike" gym at some point which does have a platform!

So you'd suggest something more like this:
- full cleans
- Front squats?
- clean pulls or jerks?

The other problem is that i've not been taught to snatch to im just doing snatch accessory lifts atm until i can learn the full thing!

cheers

Tom

Hi mate!

Really hope the shoulder improves for you!

What are the snatch balances you did a couple of sessions back?

Holding the bb OH with a snatch grip?

Cheers

Pff, as popular as curling in saharaTongue
I think any kind of strength/power training doesnt drain much attention in occident, on the other hand the way you look has much more importance than what you can actually do; which is, and i think we all agree here, just plain daft!

Lol, i know what you mean!

Tonight

felt pretty drained today after being in dublin all day yesterday. Which was an excellent day but did reinforce my distaste for guiness - sorry mishima.

Dude, how can you forget those shots of Tony, the ones that went from the top of his head to the very base of his cock? Tell me, I really want to know. I mean, I like him and all, but I don't need that in my head.

Welcome aboard man Happy.

Lol, thanks Rick!

Good to see another lemon fresh log being started. Good luck with it mate!!!!

Thanks Wigan! i shall do my best!

One thing i wanted to ask you guys is how much do you think not being able to fully lock out my right elbow will effect my training. I broke the elbow years ago throwing javelin and cannot fully straighten it. When i spoke to Tommy ages ago he said there are a few lifter who cannot fully lock out for whatever reason!

Cheers

Tom

Shouldnt hamper you at all mate, if you dont let it. Check out Juri Zacherevich on Youtube, a 210k snatcher at 110k bodyweight, he broke his elbow extremely badly and within 12 months snatched 210, so no excuses really!!!

If you end up competing as long as you bring the bad lockout to the attention of the refs before you lift it wont go against you.

Good luck with it mate, be good to see you progress!!

Thanks buddy!

Yeah i just watched him - seriously impressive!

just to give you an idea here is an ohp grip and snatch grip. Hopefully be ok!

being given the ultrasolid double verbal high 5 from joni is close to a perfect 10

seems to me like oly lifting is dieing a death faster than powerlifting ,however ,the lifts themselves are awsome and training them can only make you one thing : SOLID

Hey BOAR! long time no speak - i remember ages ago you offering me a tv to use at uni - what a nice fellow!

Im off to a good start then!

Yeah it does seem a bit like that, i was reading about that on the bbc sport website the other day. i think GB only has 1 person going to the olympics in weighlifting?

Tom

ps BOAR i may be calling upon your services for some other fun training stuff to do at home seeing as i will have nice beach to mess about on! sprints perhaps.

Hi i'm Tom.

I post on MT sometimes so you may recognise me from there.

Used to be a lightweight rower, trained a ridiculous amount for that and ended up hating it. Took up weight training and did the 5x5 full body thing for while. The gym i go to has weightlifting platforms and some good lifters, Tommy Yule trains here and is a strength coach for the athletes. From watching him and some of the sprinters i started messing about with the olympic lifts all be it very badly. I got to the point where i was doing mainly the OL lifts and only a few other bber exercises. I then hurt my back and ended up doing the bber sort of thing for about 1 year.

http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/7771/changevd1.jpg

Recently the urge to do the olympic lifts has re-surfaced so ive been gradually increasing the amount i do. I met a guy in the gym the other week who trains the throwers here and he gave me some help and said he'd help me when ever he's in the gym - ive not seen him since though.

Anyway if your not bored by now -

Exams are done as of Friday.

Went to the gym for the second or third time in 2 weeks. Been spending ~16 hours a day in the library.

Anyhoo - a good workout to blow of steam.

i needed that!

not hitting anywhere near failure on the olympic stuff as im just trying to make sure form is ok atm.

here is a vid

Its obviously not near my max but seeing as im new to it all i guess it is a pb.

i shall be going home soon to Scotland for the summer, so i wont have easy access to a lifting platform. However i noticed "fitlike" gym on this site which is pretty close to where i live so hopefully i can train there to use the platform. Either that or make some bumper plates like TONY did!

Tom

EDIT:

Thought i'd add in some goals

main ones atm
- BW snatch (85kg)
- 100kg clean and jerk
