Just realised now, that out of all the novices and U105s there last week, I was probably the oldest at 39, not sure about Andy Goswell or Owen Lewis though!

Learning curve mate, you know full well you'll never do that again. It just goes to show that you don't have to be a master of any particular events, just be consistent all the way through and you can sneak it. On another day though, you might need to play it clever and just do what you need to do to conserve energy. Such a crazy sport!

One thing I'll say Nath, you won't find a harder log as the one we had last week. The diameter on most logs are about an inch and a half smaller than that one, so even on a 100kg log, it won't be much harder. I,ve had a go on a different log before and got a few reps out on 95kg and that was a while ago. How's your bicep now, does it play up when you press?

Ha! I know mate, appreciate that, cheered me up when I was pissed off, given me the drive to go again, so if I do ever pip you to the post in another comp, you only have yourself to blame!!lol

Don't mind at all Nath, chance to settle a few scores!!lol . At the end of the day, my aim has always been to get as many Welsh boys competing at all levels, think it's great there's so many of us going down, be a good day now. Pressure's on you "novices" now to deliver the goods!!lol.

Just found this thread now and managed to sift through all the b**ching. At the end of the day, if you wanna be the best, you gotta beat the best. Seems a lot of Welsh "novices" going down!!lol If we're sharing lifts boys, don't bring your trophies, we won't all fit in the car and I count 3 trophies by my reckoning!!lol.
There, that's my b**chy contribution! Gonna be a great comp and for me, time to right some wrongs from last weeks comp and prove myself when fully fit. The more mobile guys from last week might struggle in the static events. Great events for myself, gonna bring it in the deadlift and looking forward to arm over arm and stones. Gonna be a great battle.

If theres 11 competitors like there was, 11 points for 1st and add that to 10 points for 2nd, which is 21 and divide by 2, which is 10.5. So if 3rd and 4th are equal , you take 9 points for 3rd and add 8 points for 4th to give you 17 and divide by 2 to give you 8.5 points each, have you got that now Buddy??!!lol #confused!

Not very pleasant reading for myself, but just goes to show how weak I was on the moving events. I shall be printing that off and sticking it on the gym wall for motivation. Can't wait to get stuck into more static events at the Crayford Mazda Classic, confident I can do a lot, lot better once fit.

Gutted I'm out of Bodypower now, my knee's worse than I first thought, don't want to do another comp injured.Going for the Crayford Mazda Classic now in June, really good events for me and loving the fact there's full range of stones to finish. Seems there's a few Welsh boys going down too.

What a strong team of Welsh guys going to the UKs. Can someone remind me what date this will be. I'm in talks at the minute with a couple of companies to sponsor the WSMA and provide Welsh competitors who qualify for UK or Euro events with kit, tracksuits, t-shirts, vests, kit bags, hoodies etc.
I'm hoping I can get this nailed down pretty soon, will keep you all informed.

Lewisg said:There is definately a lot of talent in Wales for a good U90 comp. Would be great.

I agree with you mate, I want to keep it a Welsh U90kg comp so we can get the winner to the Euros in Ireland. But I will be holding further comps open to the UK to test yourselves. Isn't the U90s British in Manchester in May sometime? You'd do well there mate.

bigdave30 said:gibby, inter comps in wales would b a big help 4 guys like me, i no im not ready 2 go in2 opens yet so it would b gr8 2 work my way up through inter comps, im hopin 2 do 1 mre novice (dnt no how people would feel bout that as i came third) just 2 get comp experience. im 100% behind inter comps in wales.... and rob, if u need help with loading in future events im happy 2 help butt, msg me on here if u need me... cheers boys.

Inters for you next Nath, I'll make sure I get a comp up and running soon. Can't see many novices being happy seeing you rock up to the next novice comp!!!ha! (including me!) It also gives the new wave of novices coming through more hope of placing. An inters category in Wales is essential to make that next step up. As for another novice comp, have you looked on the bodypower link, the novices there is quite heavy and being only your 2nd comp, they wouldn't mind. 250kg axle deadlift for reps at 16", ironmind sack race, 280kg yoke, 110kg log for reps!! and farmers I think. See if theres spaces left, entries in by end of March, its on in May so enough time to train for it.

Great comp yesterday, so glad I've got my first one under my belt and can now appreciate what everyone puts their bodies through. Feel like I've been hit by a train!I haven't long got back from cleaning the venue and I didn't get home until midnight last night as we had to take all the kit back to Cardiff, to have the Luton van back by 8am this morning!! Not ideal after just having competed. My body completely shut down when I got in and I was a quivering wreck!!
Considering moving all the kit down from Cardiff on Saturday and a niggling patella injury, I'm really pleased with my performance and proud at placing 7th in a really strong line up. Totally opened my eyes to a few things and I know what I need to do to improve.
I've got the bug for it now and although Bodypower novices is a step up again, gonna train like mad to get there. On any other day, I'd have thought 18 reps on the deadlift would have been enough, but Ben and Nathan were machines! 24 and 21 reps respectively I think.
I've said this from the start of getting involved in strongman, the camarardory between everyone, no matter what weight class is unbelievable and as Nath touched on earlier, he came into the comp with a warrior, f**k everyone else attitude, but soon warmed to everyone in a short space of time.
A great pleasure to also be competing amongst some great 105 athletes, every one of them. I noticed there were quite a few guys competing who could quite easily make a U90kg class, which is why I intend to hold an U90kg comp alongside Wales'Strongest Woman on 15th July, the day after Wales Strongest Man on July 14th at the same showground venue, but back in the big shed as at Celtic Carnage.
We've been lucky enough to have been offered by Dave Warner an invite for the winner to the U90kg European Championships in Ireland, which Dave will be running. This will be a great oppurtunity for the smaller guys to show their potential.
As for the likes of Ben and Nathan, who probably wouldn't make U105kg but want to take the next step, I intend to hold intermediate( light heavies) comps in Wales, open to anyone in the UK, to bridge that gap between jumping straight in with the big boys. Yesterday showed how much potential there is in Wales and we need to build on that now. As for Tyron, well he just slips nicely into the 105s and I think he'll do really well too.
I think Rob has already thanked everyone involved, but I'd also like to thank Rob himself for helping move all the kit so late at night and with a bad leg too! Met even more great guys yesterday and really can't wait now for this summers event, it's going to be huge. As yesterdays event went so well and we had some good feedback on the venue, I'd like to think we can put on some sort of comp in between. I'm trying my best at the minute with the local council to get funding for our own kit down here, and yesterdays charity event will most definately work in our favour.
One final mention and thankyou to Hywel Owen Thomas for saving my ass last night and driving the van for me down to Cardiff as my hips just wouldnt allow me to change gear!! Have you ever seen a Luton van with a 1.7 ton capacity laden with 4 ton of strongman equipment flying down the motorway!!?? Not a pretty site!

Subject to testing Si, we were gonna get members of the public to ride on the back to make up the weight, or something like that. We've been offered a fire engine, but I'm guessing way too heavy??
» Wales Strongest Man 2012 (Go to post)24-03-2012 @ 17:39
We've got 2 haulage companies who want to sponsor us, just sorting out the best deal for us and what they can offer. Once we know which one, will find out exact weight of the truck for you. And just to clarify, it's just the cab, not cab and trailer like the UKs.
