Holy s**t. Great pulling in any condition, let alone your current emaciated state Happy. f**king good chinning, too.

plus once per week: bag containing squat shoes

I take:

A multivitamin and mineral (currently H&B "one"; in fact all my stuff is H&B except the whey)
glucosamine 1500mg and chondroitin 1200mg
fish oil, 6g.
Vitamin C, 3g (plus what's in the multi)
Vitamin E, 400iu
garlic, 1g
zinc, 15mg
gingko, 60mg
echinacea, 1200mg (omitted every fifth week)
a bottle of yakult.

whey, as and when.
psyllium husks if required (not very often atm since I have wholegrain toast with breakfast every morning, etc)

I'm not entirely sure whether the gingko does much, though I think so. Similarly the garlic and the zinc. I am certain, morally, that the glucosamine and the fish oil have helped my joints a great deal, and that the C,E and echinacea have all helped my immune system out. The yakult just seems to make me feel better in general.

I freely stipulate that some, all or even most of this may be the placebo effect. I don't mind, really, what it is that makes me feel better as long as it does.

And yes, I know this doesn't compensate for my s**tty diet Happy.

On reflection they were high. They felt high, I said so at the time, but was reassured. In future I shall descend until they do not feel high. This seems the logical course of action.

Are they like Wilks but even more forgiving for fat bas***ds?
» Should Olly shave his head!?! (Go to post)07-10-2006 @ 15:41
There will be no shaving of my head, let me make that immediately clear. Not even for huge sums to charity. Not even if the charity is the Dr Rick Foundation for Improving the Lives of Dr Ricks.

So is the plan for you 190 for five singles on Wednesday, and then 200 once the Wednesday after?

As you know, if I do for some reason miss on Friday the title will surely be yours, as it'll be five weeks before I try again. In fact, probably more, since that takes me into the heavily-disrupted November period.

To be honest mate I can't get a lot lower than that - I squat within an inch or so of the lowest I can physically get most of the time, though I think I cut the last one a little bit higher than I usually would.
» Fines List (Go to post)03-10-2006 @ 22:56
Well, as you know, I'm not really happy with the whole concept. Hey ho.
» Fines List (Go to post)03-10-2006 @ 22:51
Can anybody assess these fines? I rather think I might be levying fines for dubious and over-enthusiastic fine-levying procedures...

The one thing I'd really like here is a link for each thread that takes you to the first post in it since the last time you were online - it's incredibly useful.

My normal whinge is for the next level up from this - a "posts since last visit" link - but with an uncategorised forum you don't need that.

Incidentally, Bill Starr has recommended in the past to pick a new exercise or rep regime and go for a PB when you arent feeling great. According to him, hitting new pb's, even rather meaningless ones, is good for motivation, enthusiasm, and as he points out, they add up over time.

I have a better proposition. What I classify as a PB for me, is a PB. What you classify as a PB for you, is a PB. You can cheat all you like, but you're only going to be cheating yourself.

I dont see how nailing 5 reps with a weight you havent done 5 reps with before isnt a PB. If my best deadlift for 5 reps is 200, and I manage to do 205 for 5, that's a PB. The key word imo is 'personal'. They are personal bests, not anyone elses, theyre yours. So, seeing as theyre my bests, I think i'll decide what is and what isnt a PB.

I agree entirely. I use my PBs to track my progress, and it IS progress - at least I think so. Obviously a PB single in a powerlift is much more exciting, but the others are satisfying, motivational, and remind you that you're going in the right direction.

Some of the volume PBs are EXTREMELY satisfying - the first and so far only time I got 100x10x2 on the bench I was about as happy as it's possible to be.
