Wednesday 24th October, Adlington

Bench 20x20, 70x5, 90x5, 100x5, 110x5, 115x5, 120x5, 125x5 PB, 100x14 PB.

All very nice and easy for the 5s; the 125 wasn't quite a limit but I was not going to get a bigger set after it. Very pleased to get a one-rep PB on the "nfl combine", too.

Incline Smith Bench 60x5, 80x5, 85x5, 90x5

Triceps Pressdown (in lbs) 55x5, 82.5x5, 97.5x5, 112.5x5

Both probably PBs, but who knows?

Power clean + push press 50x3+2x2, 60x3+3, 70x1, 75x1, 80x1 PB, 65x3.

First time I've ever had 80 overhead standing. Well pleased with this, though it wasn't particularly pretty it wasn't horrible either.

Good session!

Well, I've figured out why I couldn't remember my bench 5s PB - I don't have one. I've done 120x6, 127.5x4, and no more than three of any weights in between. So 122.5+ x5 is a base point for tomorrow.

Nice sore quads today. I suck at squat 5s.

So, four NW lifters representing England? That's got to be good going.

Yes please!

I was particularly impressed by Fat Pete steaming like a kettle in between sets. Or perhaps a wildebeest.

JoeB and Fruitbat of this forum will be there too!

Hope all goes well for everyone.

I feel like I'm being stalked! And I like it.

I can't guess the next 3, Jonny, as I don't know what my triple will be next week and won't until the last warmup. We'll see Happy.

Absolutely delighted, yes Grin. The PBs are nice, the fact that I'm getting nearer to decent form on the lifts is far nicer!

what do you put your recent successes down to ,is it just the adlington magic or have you had a change of mindset

Well, both. It is entirely the Adlington magic - first by sorting out my form, and then by filling me with confidence, showing me how to do a bit of work, and surrounding me with the best possible training partners, all of which has changed my mindset. Then there's the Alan factor. The man is a magician, able to diagnose form problems in an instant, he knows what you can do far better than you do, and he has the essential quality every coach needs - you really want to please him, to earn his approval and respect.

It is a privilege to be a member of the club and lift under Alan, and it makes me better and happier every day.

Any time the rest of this year a Monday doesn't top out with a PB is a f**kup, so it's not something to fuss about. (Except maybe the 10th of December, we might have a light one to prep for the big single on the 17th!)

They're PBs but not really maxes Happy.

Lots more there - it was snappy and pretty. Nice to be back over 500!

Your squats have looked better every session for the last few weeks. Good work man.

Monday 22nd October, Adlington

Squat 20x5x2, 70x5x2, 115x5, 135x3 (wussed out to save energy), 150x5 PB, 115x5x2 for some extra work.

Superman Rows three increasing eights.

And that was that. I still find fives really hard, but there's definitely more there. Again the top set started off less well and improved, not least because I had my feet positioned wrong for the first three reps. Idiot child. Still, we did what we came to do and the plan of 155x5 and 160x5 in two and four weeks looks sane.

Some great lifting going on; Joni smashing PBs, Jonny Mills impressing on the olympic power movements, Andy casually knocking out 200x5s, Jeff knocking off an easy squat PB single, and Peter squatting heavy 5s to best-ever depths, not to mention Big Steve casually repping 340 bench like a twig. I love this club.

I think you would have on the second attempt if you'd got that far, too. You were pressing straight underneath the bar hook.

100 C&J and 350 front squat are a couple of major milestones for one night!
