» How much protein you actually need? (Go to post)10-11-2007 @ 17:39
If our ancestors did eat meat only rarely, all the more important they could use relatively large amounts of protein when they got it, then, surely.

As to "know this definitely", any honest scientist will tell you that very little is known definitely about digestion and nutrition, and even less so in relatively recherche areas like protein utilisation for muscle production in athletes. The body is a very complicated and variable machine.

Even more so as to how anybody might think they could lay out the details of the diet of people fifty thousand years gone. Honestly, people are telling fairy stories in whichever way suits them.

I likes my benching, yes I does.

Friday 9th November, Adlington

Power clean + push press 50x2x2, 60x2, 70x2x so many I lost count (until Jeff told me to stop, basically).

Some of these sucked less than others.

Hang cleans 50x3x3.

As above.

Speed Bench 20x20, 70x3, 75x3, 80x3, 85x3, 90x3, 95x3, 100x3, 105x3, 110x3, 100x3, 90x3, 80x3, 70x3.

Tired now.
» Whats the most you've ever eaten in one sitting (Go to post)09-11-2007 @ 22:23
I've eaten some big dinners, but nothing like Carl and Hayden.

I've had a few 32oz steaks in my younger days though.

Superb squatting tonight, Aaron. Your 500 was technically sweet and very fast.

They were more than "easy enough", mate. Barely in first gear.

Very good session for a man under the weather, Jeff!
» Carls Powerlifting Journal (Go to post)09-11-2007 @ 22:16
Based on what Joe's had me do in the past, I'd go with something like

20x20x2
70z3
90x3
105x2
115
125
132
140

Big jumps to a PB have proved not to be a good thing for me.

Very nice squatting there JT.

great pulling mate! 400 in a couple of weeks?
» How much pain do you live with?? (Go to post)08-11-2007 @ 22:23
Very very little. My knees are very noisy but these days they're not all that sore - mind you, I don't do any running or jumping, I suspect impact would f**k them over again very quickly. The bicep tendonitis seems to have cleared up. All I really have at the moment is the nagging foot problem (mostly ok now) and a tender right calf the day after squatting.

Thanks guys. I have to say it didn't feel as easy as it looked there - or rather the last rep didn't.

I'll be cleaning and push pressing tomorrow from about 5. Your efforts are already much prettier than mine, you young bas***d.
» Shoulder pressing for PLers (Go to post)08-11-2007 @ 22:01
I have done little or no overhead pressing, except push presses, for the last several months, and my bench seems to be going reasonably well.
» The Assassin (Go to post)07-11-2007 @ 21:13
I do, Tone Happy.

Yup, Jeff, it's in and straight on the cleans on Friday. Want to make some serious ground on these now.

Heh, I wondered how long it'd be til someone asked the juice question.

We thought we trained hard at Sugden, but we wasted a lot of energy doing silly things sometimes and underestimated ourselves too. Plus we trained like cocks.

A sensible routine, massively improved form, and people around you who make you realise what a beginner you are (I only started working seriously on the big three less than a year and a half ago, for that matter) are the secret. And Alan, of course.

Wednesday 7th November, Adlington

Last week of fives.

Bench 20x20, 70x5, 90x5, 100x5, 110x5, 120x5, 127.5x5, 135x5 PB, 110x12 PB.

135 was my PB single, done only once six months earlier, at the start of the year. It wasn't a limit set. The 110s were stopped by lactic acid in the triceps rather than tiredness.

Incline Smith Bench 60x5, 80x5, 85x5, 90x5

Triceps Pressdown (in lbs) 55x5, 82.5x5, 97.5x5, 112.5x5

Quite happy Wink. Two weeks each of doubles and triples, then we'll see what we can hit.
