» Usage of Deadlift straps (Go to post) | 15-11-2011 @ 14:47
Simeon said:f**k this straps/mixed grip b/s. Hook grip is where it's at! THIS!! Painful as f**k when doing multiple reps but not so much for heavy singles. If it's good enough for Misha doing 410kg it's good enough for me! Of course, if you insist on using straps I'd go with the DOH as the majority have stated

Steve said: I believe a study was done on all Olympic sports and the pull on the snatch was found to be the most "powerful" of all movements in the Olympics I thought it was the hang snatch due to it only incorporating the 2nd pull so the force is generated over a much shorter timeframe. I'm sure I also read somewhere that the power output between elite weightlifters and elite powerlifters was actually very similar......although I think it was in Muscle and Fitness about 10-years ago so the chances of it being factual are slim to none!

^my jerks been getting gradually worse over the last 12-18 months. Unless someone can figure out where I'm going wrong with it I don't think a trip anywhere would help relight my fire. As you can see though, I've not given up on the oly lifts completely sore all over tonight, traps, rear delts, hip flexors! Snatch 40 x4 60 x3 70 x3 80 x2 90 x2 95 x2 100 x2 - s**tty second rep with a pressout, but stayed overhead clean & jerk 60 x5 80 x3 100 1clean & 2jerks 105 1clean & 2jerks x 3 - some really s**tty jerks but the stayed overhead Deadlift 105 x5 140 x5 180 5x5 - grip barely held out for the last rep on the two last sets close grip chins 3 x 6 bodyweight can't believe how much some bodyparts are aching, especially my rear delts. My forearms have joined the party of ache to! No training until Monday now so should be nice and fresh by then........I hope!

Wigan said: He lifted at the BWLA Centeneray Event at York in September and did 117 / 154, but i think the 117 was basically a power snatch from what i remember. Videos of his lifts will be on the BWL tv channel on Dartfish. I was gonna mention this comp. I'd never seem him before and I was f**king amazed at how he lifted. Each of his cleans was a power clean, in fact if there was a "power, power clean" then this would be it, cos his legs were hardly bent when he received the bar. I'm sure he got timed out with a 122kg snatch, although it was a good lift. Personally, I think he was by far the most impressive lifter there that day....apart from Kirkbride, but everyone knows he's good

now THAT's a comeback story! I'd should have mentioned in my journal that I once tore a callous and came back 3-weeks later stronger than ever and determined to see myself back to full fitness. great reading about the weightloss, recovery and getting back in to it all.

spam_up said: Just wondered what ppl are calling short these days, I'm about the same height too mate. Also if ur u90 then I will probably compete with you at some point . Personally, I don't think I'm short...just perfectly proportioned! It's comments from the likes of Jabba who thinks anyone under 6ft is short and anyone who weighs less than 120kg is skinny that make people think i'm a scrawny midget. He only makes these comments to justify his own existence! (I know you'll see this John!) I really should just stick my name down for the Champions of the Future comp, that way I can definitely break my strongman cherry

Jabba said:5'7" You're taking the piss ! 4'9" on a good day. Still got those nice deep fast squats mate. What the hell has happened to your overheads ? Is your back still bothering you ? I couldn't have imagined you ever using a belt much less with a sub 200 kgs weight. What are you front squatting these days and are you still going to be competing at Mytholmroyd ? You're fat, I'm short....somewhere out there is a really tall bloke and a really skinny one so the status quo in the universe is all kept in tact!! I've no idea what's happened to my overheads, I'm wondering if maybe I had an injury at some point which has affected my flexibility marginally, but the god damn bar just feels so heavy when it's across my shoulders ready for the jerk. It's pissing me right off. I cleaned 142.5kg about a week ago but struggle to regularly hit a 115 jerk, something is definitely amiss. On that basis I very much doubt that I'll bother competing at Mytholmroyd, I'll just get annoyed at myself. I've been taking it easy on front squats as my knees been a bit sore for a couple of weeks but I've done 170kg a couple of time recently. Oh and I only wore the belt out of curiosity. It did make them bloody squats bloody easy though! |
