The new thing for many athletes here is cyro chamber at -100c for a few mins. The sauna must be an infrared sauna too. Also you must have your supergreens and goji berries 3x a day.

Klokov said he just uses sauna and massage for recovery. The big russian lady, Tatyana karishna? She apparently uses sauna alot too. The great Russian fighter Fedor Emilianenko uses sauna. Alot of uk people in the uk use ice baths, eastern Euros use heat. I know which one I'd rather sit in. Cant embed on my phone - someone post this vid from youtube? It discusses it in detail here. There are loads, but its cold so some indoor tracks are in Newham, Brunel, Uxbridge, Lee valley and Crystal palace. Oh, most of these bas***ds will judge though, and get in your lane on purpose to show their dominance. You must take a s**t in their lane to show your dominance first.

I've been told i should try out loads of times with my slj, 30m time etc. I think most change sports looking for funding, but I'm not looking for that. I just like to compete and train at my own pace. Dazza, you must tell more!

Yes, he was about 10.6 as a junior athlete. I doubt anyone would expect 9.87 years later. Same as Asafa powell, started around age 18 not very fast, i believe 11.0? The next year 10.5, Then 9.77 few years later. On the womens side there is Carmelita Jetter, 11.5 age 25 on to 10.64 ages 30-31. Its very rare though, But gives some hope to others. Still, these guys were never average.

It's a sad truth. I respect long distance runners alot more after reading Mo Farahs book. Seems you can work for strength, you can work for endurance, but speed is mostly god given. Not to say sprinters dont work hard, they do.

dazzachap said: Low 6.7's to high 6.9s would put you in the top 10-15 in the country. In my own experience you can still manage a pretty descent 60 with minimum track time, as long you maintain a high strength to weight ratio through the legs and good core and shoulder strength. A decent 100 of the back of that, is a different story as you probably know, the xtra hrs required to maintain neural coordination for another 40 m always amazed me. Good luck, train smart and stay injury free you could have a lot of success in whatever sport you choose. Thanks. But i have to disagree a little with the power to weight ratio thing for 60m. At 60m most guys running 6.6-6.7 still need to be running 11 metres per second. I have very high power to weight ratio and im not short. 81kg and 183cm. I have a friend like me aswell, but hes shorter. Very powerful rugby player, he cant break 10mps, he runs 7.4 60m but his first 4-5 steps (10m) is crazy. When i first started running in June i was stuck at 10.0 meters per second but I'd reach this speed very quickly, just after 20m. I was at my.peak strength at this point and I wouldnt break 7 seconds over 60m. I had to drop the weights a little and work on top end speed. No matter what the power to weight ratio is, it doesnt affect top end speed much. Ask Tom Martin, hes experienced and ridiculous power to weight ratio as a sprinter. If anything, it's just the first few steps it helps. Quick acceleration over 10m (still not as quick as top level sprinters) and you only get to 2nd gear, whilst a proper sprinter keeps getting faster until 60m. Basically, a sprinter is a sprinter whether strong or not. Some say weight training is just the icing on the cake. There are weak 15 year olds as fast as me. I'll never be an elite level sprinter, it's just a hobby i guess until im old and want to lift.

Cuddles said: What if said sprinter is doing other weight work for his hammies, glutes and hips, overloading them in similar motor patterns to how they use those muscles sprinting? I actually agree with your point, but I see much high brow bulls**t from lifters that athletes 'are doing it wrong' or 'would be better if...' - It has about as much credibility as a non-strength athlete telling a lifter how best to lift. It's very easy to be quad dominant, that's the problem. The hammies lag behind with most athletes and this makes ground contact time slow. Weights exercises i see athletes doing regularly are - quarter squats, cleans, snatch, bridges, tying a band to the feet and mimicking the sprint action (for hip strength), deadlifting mostly with a trap bar, bench press. There's so much! I guess if you have the time and energy then you can do everything. I dont have the energy so i choose 3-4 gym exercises only that get the best bang for your buck, and i do them as good as i can, all year. I had average talent for athletics, but as soon as i started weights like this i improved dramatically. I think talented athletes can do whatever in the gym, they already have the gift. It shows when guys like Carl Lewis didnt do weights at all, and ran alot of 400m in training. If i did that i would lose alot of power and speed. A few athletes ask why i power clean so much. I say, 'the same reason you can run and jump much better than me, talent'. All i do is clean twice a week at whatever weight i feel like doing. It's unfair, but talent rules I also read Bolts book and it will piss alot of people off how good he was.

dazzachap said: You planning any indoor stuff this yr?. off the back of a minimum prepped10.68, I would assume a pretty reasonable 60m would be on the cards. Yeah, in the summer i was going through 60m in about 6.70 then a big drop off in speed. I'm a little off pace atm doing heavy lifts and not so much runs. I'd be okay with 6.75 in Feb. Taking a long approach to training.

unit94 said: It obviously worked for him but people do get carried away with sport specific training, if it's using wieghts then it's probably not specific to your sport Ive said this for years. Weights are not specific. Quarter squats are quad dominant, quad dominant sprinters are only good for the first 20-30m. But so many get away with it. I think talent rules a lot of these sports, not the programs.

Started triple jump casually age 15. did 14.17m age 17 then massive injury because i was too lazy to train. Started LJ seriously age 21, age 22 i did 7.60m injured as f**k from previous year. Threw myself into a 100m race in July for fun age 26, after a few races ran 10.68. Now i'm training for this, but not too seriously. I dont think you're meant to do heavy paused squas while trying to be a sprinter. The jumping is a shame, im a much better athlete now than before, but it ruined my life for years so i'm afraid to try it again.

Sprinting is fun though, a good rush for 10.6 seconds. Didn't you enjoy it? It's fun when you don't care. I won't take it seriously like jumping. If i run 10.4 next year, i'd be happy. But it's just a good day out for me. I've been stuck in a dark warehouse for too long not doing anything. Then I want to bench and deadlift again! And not be 81-83kg forever. |
