Cheers Andy, much appreciated, just wish I had a bit of your strict pressing power and might have made a bit of a better attempt at the medley today.

Cheers Neil, not too worried about the weight on the swiss bar as I used one at my last comp and found it not too bad, just trying to get the weights right for the medley. Really pumped for the competition now and can't wait to get going.

You sir, are a pressing beast, 150kg seated is an absolutely obscene weight. Good effort.

Also, I see that you play a bit of rugby as well, how do you find that you manage to fit in the training for both rugby and strongman? I'd tried to do a bit of both and found that I picked up too many niggling little injuries at rugby which really hampered my strongman training so not really playing this season.

Overhead tonight,

Push jerks:

80kg X 4 sets of 3, nothing too strenuous here.

Overhead medley:

75kg barbell (as we don't have a swiss bar, 90kg log, 90kg axle, 40kg circus dumbell (both arms)

first run through in about 40ish seconds. Thereafter couldn't get the axle pressed for some odd reason. No idea why as this should be a very easy weight for me and had no problems doing a log of the same weight. Gave up in disgust after about 3 attempts.

Close grip bench:

75kg X 4 sets of 6

Viking press:

60kg X 4 sets of 6

Tyre flip:

200kg tyre X 4 sets of 10 flips.

Absolutely pish session tonight. Everything felt very heavy in spite of the fact that these are all weights that I should be doing very easily. Not happy and don't know why things went so poorly tonight. Just have to write it off as a bad day at the office and come back to it tomorrow.

So do we only have to press it once with each arm for time or are we just repping it out till time runs out?

Cheers gents, still quite happy with how things are going, just need to improve my awful grip.

Strong pressing Ben, I'm still amazed that you can handle all that volume on every lift, I'd be lying curled up on the ground crying like a small girl knee by now if I was doing all that volume.

Quality lifting there mark, your progress on the deadlift in particular is staggering. You must be good for a 600kg total now.

Cheers Mark, yeah things are going pretty well, worked out that the way round my s**t grip on farmers is just run really quick with them so I'm holding them for less time.

Bit of a deload week.

Trap bar deadlifts,
Worked up to 170kg for 4 sets of 3.

Trap bar holds off of blocks ( about a 20 inch pick up)

240kg for about 6 holds, my best was about 20 seconds, average was about 15, my grip is still embarrasingly bad and not looking forward to the hold in dumfries.

Rolling thunder holds.

50kg for about 10 holds in each hand, averaging around 20-25 seconds.

Farmers.

100kg per hand.
20 metres in about 7 or 8 seconds.
40 metres with one turn (drop and pick up) in about 25 seconds
Another 15 metres beltless to put them away.

Only really happy with the farmers tonight as my foot speed was really good.

Good lifting and crazy amounts of volume there Ben, hope the new routine works out well for you.

This morning's session,

Front Squats,

Warm ups to 100kg

110kg X 5
125kg X 3
140kg X 3 rep PB

Overhead Squats,

70kg X 4 sets of 6

Arch Back Good Mornings,
60kg X 4 sets of 8

18" deadlifts,

worked up to 220kg

240kg X 3 sets of 3
260kg X 1

Called it a day at this point as I was absolutely knackered after a very hard week of training, still fairly happy with how my training has gone for this cycle and now time for a much needed deload week.

420kg is an obscenely heavy wieght, congrats on a massive PB.
» Benvie's Training Log (Go to post)06-09-2011 @ 20:56
Cheers Ben, yeah training has been really good the past couple of weeks and looking peak in a couple of weeks time for my next comp.

Overhead stuff tonight.

Axle.

Warm ups to 77kg

87kg X 5
97kg X 3
110kg X 1 PB, was meant to be 107kg but thought I would just go for 110 as it's a nice round number. This was a pretty ugly lift all in all but it still counts.

Log.

90kg X 2 sets of 3
95kg X 1
100kg X 1 equal PB
105kg X multiple fails
90kg X 3

Close Grip Bench.

80kg X 4 sets of 5

Called it a day there as I was feeling seriously beat up after yesterday's deadlifting antics and full of the cold so feeling quite run down.

Came away from the gym felling pretty disapointed with my session but on reflection it was actually a fairly decent session. One more heavy session on Thursday then a deload week.
