I do appreciate such an informed discussion- I have noticed that this is harder to come across on muscle talk....

also any comments on wearing a belt for overhead press?

haha upright row stronger than deadlift? I'm just trying to get my row roughly equal to my bench.

Interview went OK, but there were 20 of us for only 4 or 5 jobs! (I didn't mention my lifting lol) Will find out by next weekend how i did..

Lol, i'm too much of a novice to tell if a bar is "good" or not. If it's 7 feet long, can handle ~200 kg without bending then thats great.

cheers though

you train their i take it?

i'm going to be in brighton later this summer for a couple of weeks and i'd prefer to train their than the uni gym.

Does it get particularly busy? are the guys cool with you working in?

how strong are the guys there? 4 plate squats and deadlifts? cheers

Had a close one today, I don't actually pay for the gym I use in Slough (because I used to work for the same company a year ago) and I think i got rumbled at the door... going to have to be careful next time...

50 kg x 7
60 kg x 5
72.5 kg x 5
85 kg x 5

100 kg x 3 - My spotter kept tapping the bar just before I locked out, but I had it easily

72.5 kg x 16 (Failure)

57.5 kg x 5
72.5 kg x 5
87.5 kg x 5
100 kg x 5

117.5 kg x 3 Fired these off quickly not too bad
87.5 kg x 15 reps! I wanted to see if I could hit 20, reckon i could have reached 17/18 if i was going hell for leather.

Pendlay Row:

37.5 kg x 5
45 kg x 5
55 kg x 5
62.5 kg x 5

75 kg x 3
55 kg x 8

No worries, got all these done in 55 mins too which was pretty rapid

Wanted to work on my shoulder imbalance (left side a far bit weaker than right at PR attemps) so did some standing DB work:

12 kg DB both arms x 8

Left hand side:

28 kg x 5, 30 kg x 5, 32 kg x 5, 34 kg x 5 (push press), 36 kg x 1 (push press)

Right hand side:

28 kg x 5, 30 kg x 5, 34 kg x 5 (push press), 36 kg x 5 (push press)

Both arms at once: 20 kg x 10

Dissapointing i could only manage one rep on LHS and 5 on RHS

Wide grip pull ups:

BW: 7,7,6

Dips: (doesn't hurt to do this anymore)

bw x 6
+20 kg x 9
+20 kg x 7
+20 kg x 5

cheers guys. i think the best advice is to try a belt on low weight first. Will borrow one of the old belts they keep on the gym and try it with 60 kg to see if its useful first

» DIPs what your best ? (Go to post)23-06-2011 @ 21:40
surely you have to account for bodyweight too? I mean the total amount lifted by the arms is bodyweight plus the attached weights..

No offence but a guy like terry hollands would be doing an equivalent feat without the weights (although much less for his size)

Hi Guys!

I'm not a particularly impressive squater (doing reps on around 120 kg), but I was wondering at what point in peoples training career they brought a belt?

I squat high bar ATG by the way, I have heard that belts are less beneficial to people that squat like this than PL style

Wiegieboard said:I think it'd come down to who did wrestling in the past. It's an incredibly skill orientated sport.

i reckon even without wrestling skills Big Z would probably do pretty well in any wrestling competition

Z's shorter height and bigger gut would give him a pretty decent centre of gravity though.

his strong shoulders could also be used to pick brian up and throw him to the floor

I was thinking that a wrestling match should be included in WSM, the two athletes have to wrestle each other to the ground for a count of 10.

Who would win out of Big Z versus Brian Shaw?

shaw is bigger, but Z has stronger legs if i recall correctly
» Non-Messy chalk? (Go to post)23-06-2011 @ 18:49
baldy said:Thing is that liquid chalk still makes a mess. It kind of cakes on your hands, then cracks and the dust still gets on the bar and the floor.
At the poser gym, we often still get in trouble and have to vacuum up afterwards.

hmm, thanks for the heads up, will have to see how it goes.
