Thanks. I was abit tentative I admit. Will hopefully pull the big 4 plates in the gym soonish and then will push for even more next comp Happy

Nooooo this keeps happening lol, we seem to have opposite time windows. I'm training this afternoon and helping out a mate who wants to join a gym. I will catch you though, I want to check out this gym in scunny because it sounds good, and I'm often in scunny and it's only like a 20 minute drive. How well in advance do you know what days you'll be training?

dan302 said:eeeeewww.wwwwwwwww sumo! haha just kidding if it works for you then use it! its good to see big show stood in the background! lol yeah lots of white lights is the way to go for your first comp, much better than failing a lift at this stage, builds confidence. there was deffo more there on the deadlift. top work man!

Yeah honestly I can shift more weight like that than conventional. But Marc insists I need to get myself to horncastle to get it sorted out lol. Which I am hoping to do a few times over summer. Yeah I was watching that guy in the other room warming up with some decent weight like it was an empty bar :O

Hopefully I'll be doing the next one in november (?) in scunny and our paths will cross then Dan. When was the last time you competed?

dan302 said:get a report written i want to read all about how you found it as well as your lifts! glad you enjoyed it, i think you should weigh 105k but that what i think about les too!

lol Dan I don't really know what to say. The squats were all fairly easy, and there might have been more in there (Les reckoned I had a tiny bit more than 140 in me) but my squat seriously suffers with nerves so 140 was sensible I thought.

Bench was alright but alot more work is needed, I really want to hit 2 plates sooner rather than later

And deadlift was great. Only thing was I was supposed to open with 140 but lifted someone elses opener of 130 lol. I thought I was up and there was no one else around so I stepped out and just lifted it, nevermind. That made the jump from my 1st attempt to my 2nd (155kg) bigger but it didn't really matter. The 170 felt fine and as with the squat I may have had another 5kg in there, but I suppose that's the way it should be for a first meet, lots of white lights and just a learning curve like you said so I am happy. Oh but it may be to your disappointment that I pulled sumo haha. No one seems to like it! But it's not a very wide sumo if that's any consolation.

Don't really know what else to say for your entertainment lol, I saw some awesome lifts, some inspiring stuff. Oh and in the 5 minute breaks between flights I managed to sneak off to the bar and catch bits of the German GP lol.

Oh and there's a vid too:

I agree Les, I think I'm about 5ft 10, if I was to lift as a 74 I would have little muscle on me and it wouldn't be very productive. I will definitely get heavier over the next few months. Thanks for your comments and encouragement

Comp today:
Weight in at just under 77, so a couple of kilos lighter than I thought I actually was. I need to eat more, and buy some better scales lol.

Squat:
120 ok
130 ok
140 ok

Bench:
80 ok
85 ok
92.5 Fail. Not sure what happened here, I've done 90 in the gym paused but the 92 just wasn't meant to be.

Deadlift
130 ok
155 ok
170 ok

Very pleased with the dead PB, and met some top people, some real nice guys down in Horncastle. A big thanks to Marc for putting it all on, had a great day.

Onwards and upwards Happy

I've not been to this venue before, the NM comp is normally in Sc**thorpe but Marc Giles is a good bloke and the Horncastle crowd are always friendly.

Your openers look reasonable going on what you're lifting in training.
What are you weighing in at?

Thanks, Les. I dont have any reliable scales unfortunately, I could be anywhere between 78kg and 81kg, somewhere thereabouts. I'd much rather sit on the higher end of the class so after this comp I think I'm gonna really go to town and up the food and put abit more weight on. It already feels like I eat alot though, I'll just have to force it lol

Thanks Dan, I'll take all that on board and try to stay focussed. Last thing I want is to hit a PB then fail on something like racking. Hopefully someone will help me practice each of the commands once in warmups, we'll see. As for opening weights, I thinking something like 120 squat, 80 bench, and 150 deadlift, all of which I could easily nail even on a bad day.
