The actual competition is to be held on the Marehay Recreation Park and will be situated within its own designated area of Marehay Show. (Due to this competition being an outdoor event, it is subject to the weather being fine on the day. If the competition is cancelled due to poor weather conditions, entry fees will be paid back in full) | |||

| Hi guys First of all I'd just like to say that I really enjoyed competing in this competition, despite having my fingers crushed, skin torn off and coming second place!!! lol Along with myself, all the people who came to watch me and the other great competitors compete, had a really good day. This included a great man, Haydn Rowlands, who spent a total of 35 years competing in both strongman and powerlifting. During that time Haydn won quite a few national and international competitions in powerlifting and also broke numerous bench pressing records. I was very pleased and proud to have competed and placed so well in this comp right in front of Haydn, who watched this comp with utter enthusiasm. He thoroughly enjoyed watching us guys giving it our all and made him remember his own strongman competing days. Sadly, Hadyn, who knew he was not well on the competition day, died very suddenly on Tuesday the 3rd of July at his home in Derbyshire. He died through an unoticed defect he had from birth where he had a thickening of the arteries and subsequently forced his heart to stop beating very suddenly. For all those that where at the Junction Gym on the 1st of July 2012 and can recall, Hayden was the big guy wearing glasses, who'd plonked his deck chair right at the front of the rope, thus ensuring he got a prime spot for spectating. He sat in his chair all the way through the comp and enjoyed every minute of his day there, along with his son and one of my best friends, Tom Rowlands. RIP 'Big H' and we'll all miss you lots.
