» Is suited lifting pointless? (Go to post)16-09-2013 @ 11:01
I think cross fit is rubbish and I cringe at some of the form people use, but I don't feel the need to constantly bash it and tell everyone that does cross fit how I feel about it.
Equipped lifting is a skill, you don't just put on a bench shirt and put 40kg on your bench you need to build triceps that can handle that additional 40kg once the shirts assistance stops.
People ask me all the time what I can bench and I tell them 265kg then when they go "wow" I explain that this is in a shirt and raw I can do about 220, and they still go "wow" but that does not mean everyone who can bench 220 raw can put a shirt on and bench 265, it's a skill set that takes time to learn and is hard work.
Yeah the numbers are inflated over raw but it's not like guys lifting big equipped have weak ass numbers raw, its all relative. Lifting equipped is a different skill set to raw and for me both different types of lifting, just you don't get equipped lifters bashing raw, I am single ply all my kit IPF approved but every time I see someone lifting double ply I don't feel the need to slate the s**t out of him.
And why dont strongmen get same criticism for using deadlift suits and squat suits, even at WSM guys are squatting in double ply briefs and pulling in deadlifts suits but that's ok cause it's different ??
If you wanna lift raw fair play to you, and i got nothing but respect for you, but if you think equipped lifting is just a bunch of weak cheaters trying to inflate their numbers to massage their ego, don't complain when you have to put up with joe public saying that "all lifters are on steroids" and "strongmen are just fat" because you are displaying the same level of ignorance

I am the biggest big Z fan in the world but shaw beat him 5 events out of 6 and one of them is the biggest test of static strength in the world so you cant play the whole static card.
Brian shaw is worlds strongest man end of story, it was big Z yesterday and I am sure it will be someone else in the future, but today it's Shaw.

I said:Lalas will drop too many points on stones but he will be in the mix with rest of stuff, surprised me on truck pull last year
Jenkins will drop too many points in deadlift to win
Misha injured
Thor getting to be a good all round athlete but static events he will drop a few points
Terry's final will come down to how he gets on with overhead, lots of amazing pressers and this will be key event for him
Shaw is looking on form doesn't have a weak event in final
Big Z must beat shaw on frame and yoke to win final as I see shaw beating him on truck stones and deadlift will be close, plus big Z is the man overhead but he has struggled with dumbells in the past when they get really heavy (look at Arnold's)

For me
Big Z
Shaw
Thor

No a bad effort on prediction Happy

Massive big Z fan but got to give respect to shaw, champion only winning 2 events just shows how hard fought and close the top guys are now, change maybe 2 events around and prob 5 places would change
That's big Zs 5th second at WSM !!

If that was Terry's last performance would just like to say well done Mr Hollands 9 fantastic years at WSM 8 finals in a row, once a few weeks after bicep detatchment.
Although you never won the title your lagacy will be remembered for a long time and some massive british shoes to fill.

Had the deadlift went the opposit it would be 41pts each!!

Z would need to have stone run of his life and shaw to slip behind Thor then I think he would win on count back

Z would have 2 firsts and 2 seconds
Shaw would have 2 first 1 second

Highly unlikely but I love big z enough to dream Happy

Edit bas***d !!! Too late
Congratulations to Brian Shaw

Ha na man don't be silly I was just sharinng my love for the big frontie, there is a video of me on YouTube doing 280 but I hit 290 one crazy Friday in the gym Happy I was chasing 300 before knees snapped off and I was told that the fronties might ave had a big part in that, so I don't do them anymore Unhappy watching my big buddy do them brings back fond memories though

The title will hang in balance of overhead medley big Z is gonna need a few favours to keep his title, very close. Shaw looks to be hard to catch he could win 2 of the 3 events tomorrow would have to mess up big time in overhead to not win title now. Well done to terry as well fantastic 3rd place triple good luck tomorrow sir

Could be way off the mark but presumably you get paid more for finishing 10th in the final than not competing in the final at all?

Is it not top 10 all get invited back following year? like you though I could be wrong

Frame
Jenkins 10
Burke 9
Terry 8
Thor 7
Shaw 6
Z 5
Lalas 4
Oberst 3
Misha 2
Jojo 1

Second update said
Thor 17
Terry 16
Brian 15
Jenkins 14
Burke 14
Z 12
Lalas 10

Terry got third 8 plus 8 = 16
Shaw got second 6 plus 9 = 15
Jenkins got seventh 10 plus 4 = 14
Burke got sixth 5 plus 9 = 14
Big Z got forth 7 plus 5 = 12
Lalas got 5th 6 plus 4 = 10
Oberst got 9th 2 plus 3 = 5
Jojo got 8th 3 plus 1 = 4
Misha out

Used to love fronties don't go heavy anymore bad for my knees !! most I have done pst surgery is 260 I think, but I did 290 before, I was using knee wraps though. once I go up above 260 I have about 10 secs to walk out and back or I pass out
Great lifting as always mate shows there is more to you than massive benches and strict pressing and looking sexy as hell Happy
