no mate how did he get on?
let me guess training went really well , then didn't feel well on the day and didn't quite perform as well as he'd hoped and feels like he let himself and his training partners down?

Apparently he wasn't last. Didn't finish the farmers, couldn't move the fire engine, couldn't do the throw for height, 1 rep on 45 dumbell, 240 on max dead from 18 inch, got 3 out of 5 stones. That's how rob summed it up to me anyway.

EDCLARKE said:lots of volume mate. I heard James was hoping to start training again soon . I saw a picture of Rutledge on facebook looking mighty fat is he still up near the 100k mark?

Need to get fitter mate so higher volume is the way forward.

Yeah I know james wants to get back training but he still has a knee problem I think. Rutledge is looking very strong, definitely worked on his pressing, needs to diet down for the qualifier. Think Saturday morning training is going to start up again if your ever interested

Il try and get some videos for you to ed.

Went down gym1 today, Rutledge got a 140kg log and rob doubled it easily. Rob is off to the Arnold's Australia on Wednesday to compete in the under 90's so hopefully he does well. Would loved to have seen how james would have got on in these sort of comps when he was fit.

What are your plans for lower body training?

Hello Wayne, Il be seeing the physio to try sort this issue out but in the meantime il be using the machines for legs. Hammering extensions and curls, maybe the hack squat and leg press if I can do them pain free. Will be a lot of trial and error but I'm going to be sensible about it and not do anything heavy.

good stuff mate , shame you're not competing as you're naturally very strong but i can understand how it can take the enjoyment out of it .
The Boar is right a big lad like you will feel it in the knees and ankles , I try and do as much of my running as possible on grass rather than roads or pavements .
do you still go to gymn1 to train ?

Yeah its a shame but i had a good stint of running around carparks with heavy things. Im happy enough to have made it to Englands once and there are some super strong guys out there now alot more commited then me.

I want to improve my fitness running, swimming and cycling and hopefully lean out a bit to. Il make sure i start my running escapades on grass then.

Iv been to gym1 a few times but now James no longer works there the group has died out a bit.

So whats your training goals then?

Hi mate nice to hear from you ,you'll be fine just take it steady. Are you still lifting?

Iv given up the aim of competing and I'm just lifting for my own enjoyment. Still got some goals to hit.

Not sure my ankles and knees will enjoy the running

Nice bit of running happening here ed, I'm hoping to run a mile within a month. Think I might actually die!

Thanks Wayne. Im hoping that as im not putting any pressure on myself to compete il stay away from doing stupid lifts that are going to result in injuries. I will be sorting out my short term training goals later.

As the title states, it's time for me to change my goals. I'm going to keep this journal going as I'm useless at recording training elsewhere.

My strongman career was short and sweet. I started in 2011 doing a few novice comps. In 2012 in competed in Britains natural strongest man, claiming 3rd in the final. In 2013, I won the southern qualifier for the naturals and managed to qualify for England's strongest man where I came 12th (or last).

Having got to England's in 2013 I was really optimistic about the following year and was putting plans into place to try and return stronger then ever in 2014. Unfortunately I suffered a back injury that prevented me from competing and has affected me ever since. I have been unable to deadlift consistently for more then a few months at a time ever since that injury even after several specialists looking at it.

Anyway, although the injury still effects me, I have decided to stop trying to get back to competing and just enjoy training again. Il still train for strength but I also have other goals to hit that il go into in future posts.

The yoke and farmers can all be stored easy enough sir. Also nothing will happen to these if left outside. As with all jt equipment they are built to last!

Open to sensible offers.
