You want a list:

Marku
Felix
Sadler
Elwood
Poundstone
Nee
Pudz
Jon Pal Sigmarsson
Aurild Haugen

etc, etc

Dead to me.

Going back to KK's deadlift - he says he sticks a belt on for heavy work and gets a bit out of that.

No not an expert. But your points were a bit off as I was talking about the potential of establishing a standard which can last through the ages. Note the future tense. They compete indoors in water, which should allow them to standadise conditions much more easily than track athletics can. How they manage to f**k that up with swim suits is beyond me.

Changes in the rules about the point you can surface and taking strokes underwater would make comparison to past times difficult anyway.

To be honest I was just having an off-topic moan about the suits.

I was thinking this the other day with regards to swimming. Things progress on the track and times get faster, but you can't change the physical properties of water, meaning that you will be able to compare swimming times throughout the ages.

Actually, this couldn't be less right. For example: they changed the temperature at which the water is kept, making it easier to swim fast. They changed the depth of the baths to reduce turbulence effects. They raised the water level so that it brims the pool rather than being below it, so that waves on your approach to the ends flow smoothly over the edge rather than rebounding and slowing you down.

(And, perhaps most significantly, the way they train changed: swimmers used to train in the pool, now they mostly train in the gym.)

Nice thought though Wink.

Damn these internet swimming experts Roll-Eyes What's your time for the 50m freestyle? Grin

I wonder what he can power clean.

Usain Bolt is awesome, but.....

tracks are faster than 20yrs ago, spikes better

I was thinking this the other day with regards to swimming. Things progress on the track and times get faster, but you can't change the physical properties of water, meaning that you will be able to compare swimming times throughout the ages. The world records would become real "gold standards".

Then they decided to allow the new suit technologies Unhappy

Actually just remembered that he was complaining about truck pull without a rope. Truck pull with a rope is a better test of strength in his opinion.
» Pulling a truck (Go to post)13-08-2009 @ 12:16
Would you pull a truck faster if you were wearing a weight vest?

Apart from arsing about outside shawn's gym pulling cars up hill (and getting abuse from folk in the flats) I've never tried it.

Is it Colin Bryce that does the strongman commentary on Eurosport? Caught a little bit of it at the weekend, some comp that Misha won handily. He really wasn't keen on the truck pull as an event, reckons it just tests who is the heaviest.

So maybe eat a lot in the run up.

TMS opinion is that England should get out quickly and give their bowlers a chance in these conditions...

Seems like strange reasoning to me.

The fire alarm got set off in the England team hotel overnight, good old school tactic that one Happy

Can't say I'd fancy batting first after a disturbed night's sleep.

Could you get me into yours Tony? Wink

Could be a new style of tandem deadlift - get JC and Ben into the suit at the same time Happy

I've only dabbled with knee wraps, last time out I had a bit of knee pain, below the knee cap. Do you guys wrap tight across the knee cap or do you give it a bit of room. I've seen some wraps that look like most of the material is above and below the knee rather than over it.

I think one of the reasons for the huge inteerest in SM at the moment is its spectator appeal. Watching someone DL a van/car or on a thick axle with big wheels is fun (for spectators) - I'm not sure standard DL and squat are to the average man in the street

I'm not sure about the equipment being important for the spectators. I think it's more the format of strongman - a larger number of events, races, reps, head to heads and so on. The format used in PL and OL is pretty much as dull as you can get from a sporting point of view.

I think it's actually the competitors that want the fancy equipment. Makes the facebook profile pic look a bit more interesting.
