» dumbell v's barbell rows (Go to post)02-11-2006 @ 14:26
Personally ive never enjoyed dumbell rows, but people seem to and get good results with them too. Just not one for me.

Wednesday 25th October

Deadlifts
60kg x 10
100kg x 5
140kg x 3
180kg x 1
200kg x 1
220kg x 1
230kg x 1
190kg x 10 - PB and f**k this was harder than it should have been, my hips, glutes and lower back is still f**ked from Saturday. Come to think of it so are my lats and traps.

WG Chins
Bw x 12,12

Machine Rows
Stack x 10,10,10

Finished off with some lat shrugs on the seated row machine. I need to get a lot of calories in over the next few days. Training is really starting to take off again, I just need to make sure I give my body enough fuel. I want my bodyweight to be around 102-104kg by the New Year.

I doubt I will, what with me concentrating on smashing The Edinburgh Massive in the new year. I could get the deadlift though. The totals dont seem to add up to the individual lifts, perhaps they have a few one lift specialists. I mean 520kg isnt exactly huge in my weight class is it?

Incidentally, I only pulled 235kg for one double when I pulled 260kg, I think if you can get that lockout a little more solid, you've got a HUGE pull in you. The strength is certainly there off the floor.

Three workouts to catch up on....

Friday 20th October

NG Bench
60kg x 10
80kg x 5
105kg x 3,3,3,3,3,3

NG 4 Board
105kg x 2,2,2,2,2,2

Curl Grip Pulldowns
105kg x 5
126kg x 5,5,5,5,5

Saturday 21st October

Went over to Jonny Mills' for some event work. He's got a damn good set-up in the Dungeon; log, farmers, yoke, etc and stones to come. The log is a b**ch, its bigger than the one that I have at home and I found it real difficult to get any leg drive in. I want to learn to jerk this thing. Farmers were excellent!

Log
Worked upto a couple of singles with 75kg and a few sets of 3 with just the empty log, trying to work on my power jerk.

Farmers
30kg x 40m
70kg x 40m
100kg x 40m
110kg x 20m
120kg x 20m
130kg x 20m - HUGE PB!

The only drop I had was on the set with 120kg a hand, but that was a balance issue as opposed to grip. The grip was more solid than I could ever have hoped for.

Farmers Holds
140kg x ~30 seconds - plenty more to come here too.

Tuesday 24th October

Wasnt expecting a good session tonight as I had a mad weekend down in London. Only got about 9 hours sleep from Saturday morning till Tuesday night but everything went much better than I could have hoped for.

Bench
60kg x 10
80kg x 5
105kg x 2,2,2,2,2,2

NG 4 Boards
80kg x 8
100kg x 3
110kg x 3,3,3,3,3,3

Push Jerks
40kg x 5
50kg x 5
60kg x 3,3,3,3,3,3 + 2 split jerks

Finished off with some side raises, snatch grip btn presses and some stretching.
» Leg Press in Powerlifting Discussion (Go to post)25-10-2006 @ 03:10
I have yet to see any evidence that says that the leg press, when used correctly is bad for your back. I have however seen plenty of evidence to suggest that it is bad when used incorrectly, ie allowing pelvic tilt, rounding of the back etc.

However, that is exactly the same as the squat, when performed correctly they're fine, when performed badly, they're not.
