Barbell Curls

40kg *10, *10

Push press was crappy again today, still cramping / spasming in my mid back when driving head through meaning I'm ditching the bigger weights. Lots of foam rolling and a trip to the sports masseur should sort this out. Frustrating because I can feel my press is strong at the moment!

Bench was good, the 162.5 was sloooow but solid, and very pleased with 120 3x8, that may even be a PB I think.

Back work was up 10kg and still got my reps. Overall, pretty good session Grin

Cut short the shrugs and curls due to running late and having to start work.

Total time 2 hours

Cheers Al, I'm quite enjoying it in a way, looking forward to 2011 Phase two when I can start hitting some big numbers again! Mind you, you're pushing some big weights yourself I see!

Power cleans
60kg *3, *3
100kg *1
110kg *1
100kg *3

Deadlift
180kg *3

270kg *1
285kg *1
230kg *5

Squat ATG Paused
100kg *8
140kg *6
180kg *1

Mix of good and not so good today! Cleans weren't happening, wrists hurt and was so tight I was struggling in rack position, so kept the weight down. Fairly crisp though. Deadlifts started really well, but nose went on the 250, and again on 270, and was pissing out in a stream on the 285. It even reburst on the 230s, so rather than do heavy squats I just nonced around with some light stuff to avoid losing any more blood lol!

Pulls were better this week than last, the 270 in particular was good Cool

They're killing me! Still, strongman is more often than not about reps, so I guess I shouldn't only be training in 1s and 3s!

I have no idea how bodybuilders can stand the feel of a pumped muscle! Awful sensation lol!

Concept 2 erg
Max effort 30secs / rest 30 secs x5

Shaved a whopping 1 second off last weeks FTO time lol! Rower was tough, similar splits to last week but with less of a break after the FTO. Not especially fun, but definitely useful Roll-Eyes

I met him at a comp last year, seems a nice enough fella, pretty keen and quite strong.

Would I train like he does? No.

Would I PT my clients like he does? No.

Would I coach any of my athletes like he does? No.

Each to their own.

Really good session today, really pleased. The deads were fast and fluid. Deadlifted with a belt for the first time in ages today and it felt comfortable again, I've not managed to settle in the bottom position in a belt for months. Fronties were easy again this week, knees still bloody sore though. Everything else was good, all weights up on last week, feeling really positive and generally in love with the barbell at the moment. Must remember this when I struggle to put my shoes on or get out of bed haha!

Total time 1hr50mins, so had an extra long stretch Happy

All weights in kiograms

Push Press
60*8
105*3
125*1
132.5*Miss
120*3, *3, *3

Bench Press
100*3
145*1 Paused
160*1 Paused
115*10, *9, *8

Superset barbell rows / rear delt flyes
150 / 25 *8/8, *8/8, *8/8, *8/8

Power shrugs
310*8, *8, *8, *8

Barbell Curls
52.5*8, *8, *8, *8

Push press was supposed to be 1x1-3RM + 1x3-5RM, but mid back was cramping, something that happens occasionally with me in the rack position. The bigger weights just weren't going to go today, so to ensure I got some graft in I put up 120 for 3 x 3, and was happy with these. Bench as usual was slow with the heavy poundages due to being nervous about my dicky shoulder but were strong. The rest of the session was solid, everything was up on last week and I worked hard Happy

Session took a little longer than usual due to training with an old partner who was visiting, so spent a lot of time flapping gums.

Total time 2hrs30mins

Now for steak.

thats exactly my point pompy! So will flat bench, dumbell bench, dips etc! Incline wont add any EXTRA mass over the other movements
» Help Needed (Go to post)09-01-2011 @ 17:06
I get frustrated by this at work a lot! Taking pec minor out of the equation, if you look at pec major you can see it isn't possible to train 'upper' or 'lower' pec, or outer and inner for that matter. It's biomechanically impossible to isolate or target different cross sections of fibres. Consider that the origination point is the bicepitial groove at thw anterior delt, and insertion points are at the clavicle and sternum, how can you contract only part of it? Compare it to the elastic band, holding it at both ends only. How can you stretch the top edge only? Or the inner half? Obviously you can't without adding extra attachment points or contrary forces. The pecoralis group is responsible for anterior movement of the humerus, along with other muscles, so put simply, all external pressing will activate the entire muscle, regardless of angle, until the plane falls into the anterior delt sphere. So just press, your chest should grow proportionately. The thinnest tsection will still be the thinnest, but will fill out with the rest of the muscle. As pointed out earlier, an increase in mass, muscle and adipose, will help with the appearence.
