An absolutely awesome 12" takeaway pizza with anchovies, garlic, mushrooms, red onions and chilli peppers. A few chips too. Now having to wait a couple of hours before getting onto the rower ![]()

Sparrow said:You're fitter than you're telling us, Jonathan! Another top AT session. Does 1:43.5 give a 17:15? The progress you have made is exceptional - to be talking about knocking 35 seconds off your 5k PB shows that. Possibly. I think the lower RHR just follows the same trend as my rowing - slow and deliberate. I think Paul will get far closer to 17 minutes than that, possibly below. Looking at those 12 minute sessions, the pace is consistent and the heart rate relatively low. If push came to shove, I'm betting he'll go 0.1 second faster than my pb. That seems to be the trend..... ![]()

Sparrow said: Take it first thing in the morning in bed. Tell the Mrs your getting your strap on. Ooh err missus ![]() I felt that my pulse was low this morning, so popped the HR watch on and had a RHR of 48 this morning. Paul - I reckon 1:43.5 pace is a good place to set off from the blocks from. I do think you've got a bit more in you, so I'd start out at that and accelerate as you go through the piece. For my 16:58 5k, I did the first 1k at 1:43.4 and just went from there ![]()

Sparrow said: I can't help but sense a degree of focus and commitment that perhaps wasn't there before - would I be correct to assume so? I like what I'm seeing. I think you're right. It's seeing week on week improvements without having to push myself into injury. I injure really easily and the weight training is something I love, but it's hard work to stay injury free. I'm 120kg now. I can't see me losing much or any much by reducing the weight training. But I think I can get very fast on the C2 ![]()

Cumulative torsional stress on the stub axle resulting in sudden snappage. It happened on the other side last year and it's not too bad to fix (and it had the good manners to break on the hardstanding) but I'm annoyed about the knee. I had planned another couple of 30 minute rows this weekend to get me past 60k this week. Ah well. Can't be helped.

Excellent reps on the C2. A comfy 1:45 pace bodes well for both 2k and 5k.

Cheers Millsy ![]() An enforced day off today. Out at work this morning, I had a stub axle on my little forestry forwarder snap off which resulted in a sudden 40cm drop to the left. I now have a slightly bashed left knee and a little lump on top of my patella. It's not serious, but resting up this evening.

Post Edited: 15.01.2021 @ 20:38 PM by Jonathan Had a tough 30r20 this evening. I put 170m onto my pb, with a final distance of 8422m, which is only 50m shy of my free rate 30 minute pb. It wasn't too bad maintaining the rate throughout, but there wasn't much of a sprint in there at the end. The heart rate indicates that I was pushing fairly hard throughout. Either way, very pleased to make this at r20. Next stop is 8500m at r20 ![]() Edit: just checked and my average HR was 1bpm lower on this than the last 30r20 pb, but my 500m split average was 2.2 seconds faster. Progress ![]() https://i.ibb.co/NT11jCp/IMG-20210115-201816.jpg

I can go faster on the 60 minute distance if needed, and I think I'm aiming for about 1:16.30 to 1:17.00 for the HM. Need to let the arse recover though - it's tender and that's with a seat pad too!

I was told that you'll generally go 1 second/500m faster on a 2k than a 4 x 1k, and if we took your 3 minute sets as 1ks (for the sake of argument), it would put you at 6:37.8 for the 2k ![]()

Very nice. Looks almost comfortable, given the consistency and modest heart rate. When is it you're testing your 5k? This seems like good prep for it.

Had a nice long row this afternoon, doing a full hour on the Erg. It's the first time I've been past 10k or 38 minutes. I had the goal of doing 16k in the hour, so set off with a 1:52.5/500m split target. Started fractionally faster than that initially, and then determined myself to do a slight negative split on each 10 minute time period. But with 10 minutes to go, I considerably upped the pace (without upping the rate too much) with the last 2k being comfortably under 7 minutes. I'm happy to say that there was no temptation to put the handle down at any stage. I've included a photo of the final screen to show the terminal velocity ![]() https://i.ibb.co/GCFk14H/IMG-20210114-173812.jpg https://i.ibb.co/PgrYK1S/IMG-20210114-173937.jpg |
