» Concept 2 rowing times 2020 onwards (Go to post)23-01-2021 @ 15:32
jt said:There is only 1 guy who posts in here who could take you on over that distance, really you should be looking past the tired old normal height gents of sugden and challenging the fellow giants who can knock 9k+ in 30 minutes.

However I will issue you a challenge

Bench 130x10

2k row

Bench 130x10

Fastest time wins

We're talking pounds on the bench. right? Grin

9k 30 minutes is my goal, but that's a massive step up from where I am at the moment.

Added 165m to my pb on the 30 minute today with 8636m

Come on guys - you're letting me dominate the middle distances here. I demand competition Tongue

I plan to do a half marathon before the end of the month, and I'm definitely not going further than that. Grin

6th day of rowing in a row (almost 50k so far this week).

Cranked out a decent PB on the 30 minute distance, adding 165m to my best. It was a tough row though, and it took a concerted effort in the 15-20 minute area not to put the handle down.

I went through the 6k mark at exactly the same time as earlier in the week, but managed to crank up the pace considerably towards the end. My target had been 8600m, so pleased with the final result.

I sprinted the final 30 seconds so included the final screen to illustrate the 'through the line' pace.

You seem to be having a rough time with the rowing at the moment. Is it still a hangover from Christmas? I imagine that your work is pretty exhausting at the moment as most of the teachers I know seem to be working two jobs in effect.

I'm not sure I'm at the looking forward to it stage yet, but I don't dread it Grin

JT said:Thats a tasty 6k (failed 30m) time sure you are capable of faster.

If you are going to rank anything on C2 site the monitor has to be set to the distance also it can not be part of a set of intervals.

None of the top OTW rowers appear in the rankings and there are a few what I call "dreamers"

Nice to see a non max effort session thrown in too.

Haha - yep, there is definitely more in there. I think probably 20:30 at the moment. I'm trying very hard to stay away from max effort (or pb attempts) at the moment as I feel that it's my CV system (my engine, if you will) that holds me back. I can easily pull sub 1:30 for a fairly long time, but it's my heart rate maxing out and my breathing that eventually puts the brakes on. So, I'll work on that for the time being Grin

A fairly pleasant 30r20 capped 160 BPM this afternoon. Limited time, so sadly no 60 minute session.

14m further than the last time, but much faster on the first split and a bit slower afterwards.

Also, I've been introduced to a new discomfort, which is my right lat chaffing on my arm. Time to crack out the talc Cool

Bim said:Oh no, we don't have to do a 6k as well do we Tongue? Great pace.

Cool

It was on the original Sugden C2 table, but got deleted recently. I think that there were only about 3-4 times listed.

The daft thing is that that 6k time puts me at 34th out of 834 in my age and weight group on the C2 rankings, but it wasn't a max effort at all. Compared to my 5k, it's pretty slow (as in the extra 1000m took 4:02).

I'm guilty of not posting my times on there, but I do wonder how many others don't bother too.

In the mean time, I'm loving the 30 minute sessions. Building my 'engine' as they say. If I get time, I'll do an hour tomorrow.

Excellent effort. I can't imagine that that was pleasant at all.

Had a lovely 30r20 capped at 145. Went a whole lot further than last time (220m to be precise), and at 141bpm rather than 143bpm.

Sometimes it just feels good to row slow and steady, and this was one of those times.

Decent rowing this evening. I had planned to do a fast 30, but the 'handle down' demon was on my shoulder throughout. I had a decent headache when I started the row, which I reckon was due to the sudden weather change about 30 minutes before. A cold front charged through, blasted us with rain and the temperature dropped 6c in a few minutes. I've always been pretty sensitive to sudden weather changes, and it always results in a headache.

Anyway, did a 6k instead, as I've not recorded one yet. Made up the metres at the end with a 10r20 cooldown. I'm taking the 6k as 21:00.2, which is making the deduction for going 6m over. I was rowing at about 1:35 pace through the line.

In a slightly cut short 30 minute session, I did 6k in 21:01.2
» Supercharger (Go to post)19-01-2021 @ 22:54
It's not on the topic of superchargers, but I have a V10 TDI Touareg at 370bhp which puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. It's supposed to be for heavy towing (which it does very well) but I mostly don't use it for work. It was hard finding a 1 owner V10 that had never towed before, but it hasn't disappointed.

Glad you're covid free, but sorry you're feeling crappy.

Rest up. The Erg will still be there when you're feeling better Grin

Speaking of which, you don't by chance have a second c2 you want to sell? I'm considering selling my dumbbell set (I don't often use them and don't need them) and I'd use the cash for a second c2 so that I could row at the same time as my wife/brother.

If my UT1 is 160bpm or thereabouts, our UT1 pace is about the same Grin

Nice work on doing 50 minutes of it too.

jt said:A solid probable UT2 session, congratulations.

Many thanks. I must admit that I like the heart rate based training. Being a bit autistic with numbers means I enjoy watching and manipulating the heart rate by adjusting pace.

I did a 30r20, at what can probably be considered UT1. It was easy, and a bit counterintuitive (as I usually speed up through a row, as opposed to slow slightly to stay within the heart rate cap).

So capped it at 160bpm today.

Not a great row tonight. Just a 140 bpm capped 30r20, but heart rate was not stable. A bit of a stressful day at work, along with 8km of forest walking and I couldn't keep the heart rate down. Oh well.

Right deltoid is bothersome too, though not when rowing. It's so incredibly frustrating to pick up these niggling injuries and have absolutely no idea how.

Anyway, tonight's row:
