» London Gyms (Go to post)18-06-2012 @ 13:26
Hi All,

got to move to London with work, and will be living in Raynes Park / Wimbledon area. I had a brief look for gymes but most were posh clubs which cost a fortune and did not really have any proper free weight kit. So anyone know a good gym to try?

Cheers
Steve

It all came via a new gym that opened in town, they were looking to sponsor local people. Got a call out the blue and that was about it. As long as I compete that was the only stipulation. So if I go in the local rag papers, they have to be in the write up. I reckon as you say people just dont ask, we're all to british about asking!!!! I think there would be plenty of gyms that would give free membership and clobber

Hi all, any tips please, was doing heavy leg press. yes serves me right and I should have squatted. Anyway, my right leg buckled and went out sideway hence the carriage crashed down. I felt only what can be described as a thump on the inside of my thigh and bottom of my abbs (this was one week ago). From there the pain has got less and I can move my leg, I managed light (ish) deads, squats are a total non-starter (body weight only) and bench is tricky getting my leg on the floor. I can take some time off, but I have a comp in 5 weeks. Anything you think I can do, or as I suspect I'm not going?

totally agree, just do the comp, that way you'll pick up good tips and train better for you 2013 comps

If you're worried about the pegs, check out this link http://www.sportouring.com/gallery.php?sectionHeaderActive=100... there are plenty of options available when it comes to this. A bloke I work with is 6'8" and has to have this type of thing just to fit

Go for it, if you dont use it, sell it, nothing lost. I'm 44 and use a bike everyday, mind you I'd not let my kids ride one :-)

Cheers guys, I think I'll back off more, especailly as last night was my last squat night and it was s**te :-)

OK, I can back off more, but say with the squat a 225 opener to 245 to 265, that seems big jumps, OK I can give that a go.

How do you warm up to hit that?

OK, still relatively new to powerlifting and comps, got a comp coming up and I'm not sure what starters to go for. Now I've read all the play it safe etc and for the first time might do that, but what do you do for your second lift (percentage wise)as I worry the jump may be too big. Usually my second lift is only 10Kg over my opener, so all I'd like to know is what you do?

Currently I plan my openers
Squat opener 250 target 265
Bench opener 140 target 150
Dead opener 270 target 290

Does the above sound about right to you?

Also what are your warm up strategies

Cheers
Steve

cool, at least I not alone :-) I do wonder what it does to other parts of the body, like the internal organs!
