TVR Tuscan, pain in the ass, money grabbing... but fun to drive. But the other half hates it so I dont get much chance to use it other than drive to work Angry

yup I agree with that, the thought of doing them can put me off.

Interesting, I may try lighter 5x5's for a change and my soul, but may be 5, 3, 1 may be worth a go

OK your five pence worth please, I’m working hard to bring my squats up and have been working doing 5 sets of 5, currently I’m at 230kg, but I find it hurts like hell for the best part of a week and at best can only squat once a week where everything is so tight and also the Doms. Now if I instead do a pyramid set that works as follows, 1/ select a target weight, so say 260kg, 2/ do 2 set of three reps at 90%, i.e. 234kg 3/ Followed by 1 set of 2 at 95% i.e. 247kg 4/finally 1 rep with the target weight, 260kg. Doing this does not seem to cause any hurt and so far by doing this I’ve hit my best squat at 270kg.

So my question is, the 5*5 hurts like hell and gives me the sense I’m building muscle, whereas the second scenario seems to give progress but does not hurt at all, so which would you do and why?

Not that this is gona be of any help but I did my IT band squatting and it hurts like hell, especially when driving, that was the worst.

I was told apart from pain that it would not really affect my squat (not sure if that is right mind you), so I just carried on, but not quite so heavy and not as often as I used too. As for healing, I reckon for me it took the best part of a year, but then I did no foam rolling or supporting excises. Oh I did however use a diclofenac based gel

Eating and resting more should help reduce DOMs, stretching after training may help aswell but maybe not.

What about foam rolling, I brought one but am yet to use it

No no, overloading is a principle of progression when used correctly. As long as you're maintaining good technique keep adding weight and squatting. After all you're looking to stimulate adaptation.
Keep going kidder.

Sounds good to me, just grin and bear the DOMs and keep loading up :-)

Cheers me babber

Performing function you are not accustomed to.
This could include:
Adding load to an existing exercise pattern
Increasing frequency of an existing exercise pattern
Performing an unfamiliar movement
Working past MMF
etc etc etc

OK, forgive the questions, but I pretty much always get bad DOMs from squatting and I like squatting, so as such I'm not doing anything new. So from what you say am I over loading the weight and should go lighter (I only do 5 x 5, so I can really cut that down, well much)?
