Dont worry mate, as long as your body is strong as a whole then your bench wont be affected that much. It may make you more hungry for improvement when you do come to giving it a structured cycle.

Because a straight bar hurts my delicate little wrists!

Very nice squatting dude, like Kendrick said, maybe a smaller jump is in order. What do you think you could get to, 170x5 maybe?

Im a bit behind mate, just saw your deadlifting. Wicked stuff mate, and that was done in tracksuit bottoms. And good squatting too. I think our squats will be very similar on the 17th Happy

Normally whatever I can pick up out of the rack and hold for a few seconds is what I can actually deadlift. So you should pull 240!

Thanks Sivvy, that is a mighty fine bird!

Marc, I have done 5x5 on and off for a couple of years now, I love it. Although it can be a bit repetitive, the results are worth it. I also do other rep ranges like 3x3/3s/1s. Sometimes off season I may go with higher bodybuilding style reps.

Anyway, I was sick on friday, Im guessing with the same bug everyone else has got. I still trained after though and had a good session.

Seated military press
20x20
60x8
95x6
95x6
95x6 this equals the best I have done on this set/rep scheme and it was comfortable

EZ bar curls
20x12
57.5x6
57.5x6
57.5x6

20mins stairs, 10mins treadmill powerwalk.

And after this I felt rough as f**k. I didnt want to go in to work the next day but other people were off sick so I had no choice. I rested as much as possible and feel good today. As I am benching tuesday and working all day and night tomorrow I have to squat at 6:30 tomorrow morning! Luckily Sivvy is a dedicated man also, and will be squatting with me.

sound good phil! Grin might keep with the 100kg for max reps then some db benching.

what do i do when i fail on my top sets on dead and squat(say get 4 instead of 5 reps) should i start the 3x3 then after a light deload week?

If you fail one week, give it another shot or 2 before packing it in. Really try and milk progress as much as you can, although now you have started a cut it will be hard to carry on gaining strength. Oh, I say you started a cut, you have been eating biscuits and drinking beer!

Im glad you havent lost much through your lay off. I had a bit of time off over xmas due to the same reason and suprisingly didnt really lose anything. I had wondered where this log went, I was following it on MT until you went AWOL!

Qualty pulling Phil. Did some hard 5's squating last week. 1st time doing hard 5's in over a year and it killed me.

Yeah, doing 5s is hard mate. I think they are awesome for squats. What rep range do you normally do Ian?

Oh and thanks T, up to 240 next time for 5s, Im a tad stronger than last time I did 5s so hopefully it should translate to a bigger single

» Goals of 2008 Thread (Go to post)03-01-2008 @ 18:29
For me, my goals are a 310 squat, a 190 bench press, a 310 deadlift and hopefully to do these all on the same day for an 810 total. Also to get 2nd at the wdfpf worlds (equipped) and first at the british as Matt Saunders wont be there!
» Mendelson 701lbs raw bench (Go to post)03-01-2008 @ 17:49
I have to agree with Sivvy that a lot of these huge benches have some fault with them be it the lockout or the pause. However, Mendelson made such light work of it that Im positive he could have done it paused anyway.
» Back In Business! (Go to post)03-01-2008 @ 17:29
Oh and as for the bench, why dont you just have a bit of fun with it, maybe try different exercises and rep ranges. Or you could just do some maintenance work to save energy for the squat and deadlift.

Ok JC, cheers mate.

T, thats the same calories as Im taking in, I take 4000 on rest days and an extra 500 on training days. The difference being you got to 110kgs! Ok mate, perhaps we will let you off this one compGrin
