» WDFPA 'World' Championship results (Go to post)15-11-2009 @ 14:42
I was there yesterday but went before the deadlifts. Harry Philips got a world junior record of 625 kgs in the 90s. Andy Bonner squatted 250 in the 90s at m3? And he benched 150 I believe. Paul Richards squatted 157.5, and Im pretty sure he benched 100 or 105 at 67.5kgs. Simon Marshall squatted 265 and benched 190 at 100 kgs. Pete Sutton from Wales squatted 265 in the 145s (I think). Ian Shaw squatted 230 and benched 122.5 (again, Im not 100% sure on this). And he pulled 292 from what Harry told me for a British record. I think Steve Wilkinson in the 75s bombed in the bench. I cant think of any other results from the top of my head but if I think of any more I will say. Apologies if I got any of the above info wrong Happy

» 210kg raw squat for 20 reps (Go to post)03-11-2009 @ 16:52
I am very impressed with that video, and all reps to depth too. 20 reppers is something Id like to try in the future.

Watch out for Harry Philips, the 21 year old 90kg from Andover. His training has been VERY impressive.........

I am going up on the saturday to watch the unequipped.

Good stuff. I tried some knee wraps the other day and f**king hated them! First time time in nearly a year though.

So I take it you are building up for an equipped comp? Adding equipment bit by bit?

Hows the boxing? got any K-Os yet? Grin Grin

The only KO Ive had is to the boxing itself. Im working a lot of hours at the moment due to the Mrs being off work and about to drop a sprog; I dont want to fit in a busy work life and parenthood around boxing (the club is only open at set times). That and I miss the lifting big time. However, some good has come out of it in that Im 90kgs so may have a bash at this next year in the BDFPA southerns. Thats provided I can lay off the food a bit!

Anyway, great squatting, although I have to admit you come down very fast.

I take it your gym has a talc ban?
» Milk protein/casein (Go to post)11-08-2009 @ 20:33
f**k me I thought Tokar was back from the dead then until I realised how old this thread was!

I mix whey with milk and that should give a good mix of whey/casein as milk protein is supposedly 80% casein.
» rest before a comp - SUGDEN SURVEY! (Go to post)31-07-2009 @ 19:22
I have 7 days rest. I like my last session to be bench though as I feel it slips quicker than squats/deads.So I suppose my last squat/deadlift session would be about 10 days out.

Would you still advise doing the other stuff?

No. No need IMO

» How wide for squat? (Go to post)26-07-2009 @ 20:36
Good advice from Jason.

Going wide for me felt so unnatural to begin with. But it got easier each week and it wasnt too long before I put extra kgs on to my squat, having previously hit a plateau. Make sure you point your toes out a bit (mine are almost 45 degrees). Going wider reduces the distance you have to go to reach parallel, but as Jason said it is a bit harder to get depth as it requires a certain amount of flexibility. If this is an issue then work on adductor flexibility. Maybe you could even try going a little wider each week until you find your perfect width.
» Grip Training (Go to post)25-07-2009 @ 20:47
Personally all I would do is hold a barbell loaded to more than I can deadlift and hold it, just put it in a power rack and set the pins a few inches below lockout. A few years ago I had grip issues with my deadlift and did pinch grips/farmers walk/wrist curls etc.... But only when I did this exercise did my grip strength go up.
