Inertia: Overcoming a deadstop. Different strength response/stimulus to continuous repetitions and one an MMA fighter will need to throw their opponent around the ring or throw punches.

Quarter squats: By using the small range of motion with a heavier weight you activate the CNS more which will led to Owen finding the snatch easier with each set, even though he increased the weight each time. You can get a similar response with performing plyometric movements like jumps or throws.

Quarter movements: Similar reason to 18" deadlifts that you see many strongmen and powerlifters perform. Smaller ROM has added benefit of making the weight seem normal so you get used to having supramaximal weight on your back so when you try a maximal lift it seems easier. Also how else would you overload the top part of a squat/deadlift/press unless you shorten the ROM and increase the load.

This guy jumped from 162.5kgs to 180kgs in 3 weeks due to doing a super accumulation programme. Impressive stuff.

Really great day at Oxford Power Sports for this qualifier!
Really well organised and run. Massively enjoyed all of the events.
Looking forward to next year!

» Knees going inward on squat any help? (Go to post)16-06-2011 @ 08:23
It's a sign of a weak VMO. Petersen step ups and front foot raised split squats to correct that.

I am trained in two techniques, one called Trigenics and the other ART (active release technique). I've had really good success with treating guys in my gym with similar problems. I have a gym based in Southampton if you are able to get to me I will treat it for you bud.

Do we know what order the events are going to be in?
» My first attempt at a 160kg stone (Go to post)02-06-2011 @ 13:41
I'm actually one of the owners. We do a one off price but we can only offer it on Saturday mornings due to our insurance. Bit of a restriction for us in terms of one off's.

You're more than welcome to pop in any time though bud as I would be glad for any hints or tips on strongman stuff.

This is my first year of competing in strongman...you may have seen me at BSM under 105 southern qualifiers where I was sucessfully handed my ass haha!

Less than 2 weeks out from competition and after 5 sets of stone lifts at 110kgs. Felt strong so thought I'd give it a go!
