Where are you based mate? You are eligible to compete in our Forces Strongman comps as a member of the Reserves

Not sure how many are members on this site, but there are plenty of Forces lifters and depending what sport you are interested in, there are also dedicated clubs and comps for Forces personnel in powerlifting and strongman.

Im a serving squaddie and the secretary for Forces and REME strongman, drop me a PM with your DII address and I will email you with some more info

Edit - can rep it in slingshot last set of workout if you want? Probably get something similar fresh without

No, he (and the majority of us) would like to see a vid of 25-30 good reps of 100k raw CGBP. That would be impressive mate Happy

Strongman is growing rapidly within the Forces and as such we are now organising our 4th competition this year.

Winter Giants will be held on Weds 4 Dec in Merville Bks, Colchester.

The organisers of Forces Strongman would like to take this opportunity to formally invite members of the civilian emercency services (Police, Fire and NHS)to take part in all future competitions. I am aware that there has been some negativity towards Forces Strongman in the past 6 months, I just hope that we can move forwards and grow this fantastic sport within the Forces community.

All details can be found on our Facebook page 'Forces Strongman'.
» Gyms near Beckley in Kent (Go to post)25-09-2013 @ 18:39

» Armed Forces Qualifier for Britain's Natural Strongest Man 2013 (Go to post)17-05-2013 @ 17:24
There are many guys (and gals) in the Armed forces that train and compete in strength sports. Unfortunately due to the fact that we serve all over the world, it is not always possible for us to get 'off duty' and attend these comps.

By holding an Armed forces qualifier, we get the official backing from hierachy and can therefore attend the comp, thus ensuring that we get maximum participation. Surely this will make for a better final with more competitors (all of whom will have qualified under the same rules and stipulations)

Also from the looks of things, we will have more competitors attending our comp than both regional qualifiers put together. Surely that answers your questions as to why we are allowed our own qualifier.

The organisers of the Britains also granted us permission for this.

Makes sense, cheers mate

75%x5, 85%x3, 95%x1

For weeks 1 and 2 you can keep doing what you're doing or do 10% jumps (65, 75, 85 and 70, 80, 90) as suggested.

Each week, the only truly difficult set should be the last one. The first two are more of a continuation of your warm-up, especially with the 10% jumps, and leave you fresh for your last big set.

I thought as much, cheers mate

I would say you are going too heavy on the warm up doing 90% in week 3. Having said that I found 531 didnt really help my benching as much as deadlift and squats.

The percentages that you have listed look good and I think I will give them a go. My gains have been steady (including bench) up to now so I want to stick with 531

Rico said:Those percentages are right but you need to remember that you base them off 90% of your actual max.

I started 531 a while ago now and did originally base my first rotation using 90% of my 1rm. Each rotation after this, I have just been increasing my 1rm by 2.5kg instead of actually testing it. My 90% is now heavier than my old 1rm on all of my lifts.

I just think that maybe my gains will be a little slower now and that by doing the percentages that I have quoted in week 3, I am fatigueing too quickly prior to doing the 1+@95%.
» 531 percentages (Go to post)06-05-2013 @ 12:37
Im currently training 531 and just wondered if my percentages were right. I only ask because today on bench I was unable to complete week 3 (531) even though I have been hitting my targets on weeks 1 and 2. My percentages are below (I am only listing my working sets).

Week 1
5@75%
5@80%
5+@85%

Week 2
3@80%
3@85%
3+@90%

Week 3
5@85%
3@90%
1+@95%

Week 4
Deload usually 5x5@60-65%

Am I doing too much in week 3? should my percentages be more like 5@75%, 3@85% and then 1+@95%, to ensure that im not fatigued by the last set?
» Chain for dragging (Go to post)25-04-2013 @ 21:20
As the title suggests, how do I get my hands on some large chain (anchor) suitable for dragging?

I have been scouring the internet and various scrapyards but having no luck.
