i have been telling you this for frigging ages, do more f**king stone work Wink
i'm looking forward to this comp should be a good day's spectating/helping out

Been trying to recently, and it has improved a little. I think there is something I am doing wrong now that I wasn't before though.

When the stones were up at the door I used to be able to one motion the 140. I am stronger now, but cant to that any more. I have finally loaded the 160, but compared to my other lifts it is still very poor. I cant seem to get any real pop if I cant one motion it. I will be doing them weekly anyway, but think i need to work on getting the pop off the hips which really seems to be lacking

Ha ha, no guarantee. Got a few good guys between here and Orkney. Last year we had 3 in the Scottish final, this year 2 and one that came 5th in the 105s, so i wont have everything my own way. One of the orknay guys is an excellent squatter and deadlifter too.

Viking wouldn't be my choice for OH, will need double figures to win it.

Will need to squat over 300 to be top 3 on squat I would think (which i will Happy)

Arm over arm will only be good if its heavy

Would like the medley a little heavier, although some of it is to quite high platforms

I will need a fair few reps to win the deadlift

I can see it coming down to god damned stones again, I will need to load them all this time.

I need to get motivated for it, hopefully once back in the swing of things again it will be better

No it doesn't should exciting, but work rarely is.

I need to look for a new job as I am taking voluntary redundancy from mine. IT is where my qualifications are, but s**t it is boring, and its hard to think of any IT based job that is anything else Roll-Eyes

When is next comp? (shetland's is it?)

Yeah, 17th August
Viking press 140kg reps
Arm over Arm - probably chain and anchor (talk was originally of just chain, but its too light)
Car deadlift - 270ish in hands I think
Max squat
Loading medley 2x100kg sand bag, 2x120kg keg, 90kg fire engine wheel
Stones 100-160

Should be a good comp, we have a novice running along side it too

I appricate the point of having kids there under supervision but if they adults havent got a clue how much supervision can you give when they are there for there own training?

This is the important part for me. If you are taking a child to the gym it should be for the training of the child first and foremost. Training together doing the same things is of course fine, but I am not in favour of just having the kids along to do something while you do your training. That is not suitable supervision.

I would not have very young children in a normal gym, it is not ideal for the children or the other gym users. If someone is very keen ot get their child involved in training at a young age they should perhaps consider a home setup, as the weights a young child would be using would cost little and easily be stored and used in any house

I have no issues with older kids wanting to learn to lift, I think that's a good thing. But with the toddlers, the level of supervision is somewhat dire.
I'm not sure what regulations there are here as I'm in Sweden and recently moved there. It's mostly unstaffed as it's one of the 24/h gyms. It's only a matter of time before a serious accident occurs if these parents continue to bring their young kids and leaving them mostly unsupervised.

Yeah, I dont agree with that situation. Obviously I dont know what the position is in Sweden, but I cant think of any way it would be acceptible here.

My personal opinion is that the only way kids should be in the gym is if they are undertaking supervised excercise

What do you actually do?

Oh, and I sometimes get the same thing on a press, my line is often better if I clean it first. The solution, clean and press every rep Grin

I think this is worse than taking them in they gym by a long way. At least in the gym they may take an interest and learn something. Dumping them in a seating area is selfish in the extreme

Not at all, as long as you have suitable procedures in place there is no barrier to having u16s in the gym. In a staffed gym it requires that staff have PVG clearence and in an unstaffed one they must be accompanied by an adult who is responsible for them.

I am sure there are considerations with insurance also.

Obviously it is not apropriate for toddlers to be running around unchecked, but I see no issue with slightly older kids who have an interest in training being in gyms if properly supervised. Supervision is the important part.

Last night, just lots of arm over arm with a chain.

Course was short, so it worked out as:

8m pull uphill
10m run
8m pull downhill
10m run
8m pull uphill
10m run
8m pull downhill

ran through it several times with a 270 chain, its not heavy enough but enough to get the breathing going

Couple of runs with a fire engine wheel
