» CGBP the same as normal Bench Press?? (Go to post)16-09-2010 @ 22:17
dr_hazbun said:A few lads down my gym have close grips better than standard grip. I'm not one of them. I bench wide with index on rings and my close grip is 15kg behind. The ROM feels like miles.

My bench is all wide grip, arch, and leg drive. Take those away and I struggle with an empty bar.

What are the major movers on a wide grip bench , is the stress more on the chest or shoulders?
i feel like i have absolutely no power with a wide grip

Wayne_Cowdrey said:"Close grip" covers a range of hand spacings. I used to do them with hands almost touching. Some people just go in a bit narrower than normal.

ahh mine is just either side of the smooth . there fore yours is much closer then mine.

Yeah I just don't know weather to use this competition , close grip or normal grip?

MrSmall said:I used to be like this, for me it was my normal grip bench press technique was dreadful.

Yeah . I seem to lose alot of the tightness from my set up on normal grip because my arms are so short I can unrack the bar. Slight issue with having stupidly short arms

its a shame the spotters hand is covering your leg, so you cant really judge the depth but , can see it to parallel and then you keep going down. Looks like some good squatting Happy

easy enough to measure.
take 10 weightlifters, 10 powerlifters. make them perform squat, bench, deadlift, snatch and clean & jerk. Tally the totals and see who have won.
no brainer really...
Pretty much all weightlifters can do powerlifting, but a large portion of powerlifters couldnt do weightlifting (minority probably).
Put this down to skill, or strength.
This is not a dig at powerlifting - not at all.

If you took the top 10 powerlifters vs top 10 weightlifters with all aids being allowed. The result i can imagine would be quite interesting lol .....shame it will never happen.

MrSmall said:They are different sports, that's all.

Just because they both have weights doesn't mean they can be compared.

Like guys comparing MMA and boxing - apples and oranges. They are both "combat sports", so what? So is Karate, Judo, Taekwondo, doesn't mean they have anything to do with each other. They have some common traits (stand up punching, pl'ing and wl'ing both have squats involved) but that doesn't mean you can compare them.

Like Nascar and Formula 1, both racing, both have cars, so clearly they're the same, right?

I agree
