Quite a frustrating day - I can see no progress in my lifting at all in the last 12 months, which is annoying.

60 x 5
100 x 5
120 x 3
140 x 2
160 x 2
170 x 1
180 x 4 (same as before - equal PB but no 5th rep)
190 x 1 (bar whipped like crazy on the way down - slow but steady on the up)

Deadlifts

100 x 5
150 x 3
170 x 2
190 x 1
210 x 1
220 x F
220 x F
220 x F (gggrrrr - nowhere near - about 2" off the floor)

Walking Lunges

22 x 10
22 x 6

Speed Deads (top of shin)

100 x 5
100 x 5

I thought I could smell bacon! Now you sound like that arse-covering rozzer who described Sabina Eriksson as simply being 'a bit odd'.

Your powers of deduction are clearly as good in front of the computer as they are in front of the telly.

Nice avatar by the way

An very decent lifter has told me repeatedly not to "over warm up" - in comps he does about 3 - 4 sets maximum, big jumps and he does well - rarely injured.

Personally I find that if I hit a near maximum attempt I'm likely to get more than if I take a big jump - it feels like my weak body needs to have a nearly maximum weight to be able to put the big effort in.

Opinions please :

Should I split my routine up ?

Currently doing each lift 3 x a week - rotating volume (5 x 5 - 8 x 3) then heavy (one set of 1-5 reps) and light (70% for 3 x 3) squat and bench and 2 x light deads (60-70% 3 x 3) and one heavy (80-90% for 3 x 3)

Bodybuilding type nonsense occasionally follows for a few sets (rarely more than 5-10 sets)

My shoulders and back are feeling the strain - might I benefit from an upper/lower split or even one lift per session ?

I'm sure the weight will fly up - if you've done it before, why shouldnt it ? !

There are some bad cops around, no question - not a pandemic in my experience - far more hard work battling against many obstacles goes on than most realise.

Based on your experiences in front of the telly ?

You wont have much to worry about - 640 is a long way off - anything above 550 will be good for me. I might have to diet to a reasonable weight to get a British qualifying total.
Phil Laing is still hitting stupid numbers so it's unlikely either of us will be PSUK champs at 125 !

As in any other walk of life, perhaps more so, clearly not all Police men and women are either decent, or hard working.
You've only got to watch any cops-with-cameras type television program to see what nasty, fat, lazy, megalomaniacal t**ts many are.

Agreed - my wife enjoys me shouting at rubbish cops on the telly on these programs. There's more good ones than bad in my nearly 20 years of experience. I dont think the 2 on the motorway were as bad as you do - seemed like an impossible situation - run into 6 lanes of traffic to stop 2 clearly mental and suicidal women ? Would you ?

Had to train reasonably early in the morning and my back had been cramping through the night so I wasnt expecting much. Heavy squat, volume bench and light deads.

Squat

Bar x 10
60 x 5
100 x 5
120 x 3
140 x 1
160 x 1
180 x 3 (one rep shy of last week but not disasterous)

Bench

Bar x 15
60 x 10
80 x 5
100 x 1
122.5 x 3 (6 sets - no handoff, touch and go)
122.5 x 2 (stopped there - I'll work up to 8-10 sets of 3)

Deads

60 x 5
100 x 5
150 x 3 x 3

A strange way to describe someone who had been screaming with her sister that the police and paramedics were trying to harvest their organs and who had attempted to run through traffic, whilst taking 5 grown men to hold her down.

Confused

Seemed like there were a lot of members of m'learned constabulary who were more than happy to sit behind risk assessment protocol and procedures in a matter which ultimately led to a man dying. She was clearly bat s**t. No one had taken into effect the sedtive effects of the medication she had received. The disparity between her state in the presence of her sister and without her should have been noted and made clear to the duty psychiatrist.

It's not the fault of the police - the cops were the ones that saved their lives, and risked theirs in the process. They put them in front of medical professionals, repeatedly and then the law courts. What Doctors and magistrates decide is not down to the police.

As a cop I'm fed up with everything being the fault of the police - do this job for a while and see the hard work against the odds that gets done.

The cops on the motorway had an impossible job and were brave to act the way they did.
