Asbestos was used every where, from records to fire suits, and is still in use within nuclear power stations, and there is a very low natural level within the earth's atmosphere, so yes in theory everyone does have a very small dose within their bodies, if it is in good condition, and left alone it is very safe. When it is messed around with, that is when it releases the fibres, which are dangerous. These fibres are so small that you could fit 100 million on a pin tip, and they hook into the skins surface, the body then attacks it, causing the cancer. They can also get into cuts on your skin and cause cancer that way to.

Wayne_Cowdrey said: That's really sad ![]() Whats worse is i hear stories of wives and children who have dies from Asbestosis, after their fathers used to come home from the docks, and the wives used to shake off the loose asbestos from their work clothes before putting their overalls into wash.

I'm a Asbestos Analyst, and Asbestos Cement sheeting is pretty much almost safe. As said before, its only about 2% asbestos and that is by weight, so in 100kg of AC sheeting, there is only 2gms of asbestos. And it is one of those funny things that some people are effected by it, and some aren't. One fibre will kill you is incorrect, one fibre too many will, and that could be one fibre for one person, or 10000001 fibre for another. We are all exposed to it on a daily basis as it is a natural forming mineral which was surfaced mined in places like South Africa, Canada, Australia, America, Russia, so there is a background level that is constantly floating in the air. But if you really worried about it, don't go to New York, after the twin towers came down, the city was contaminated on a major scale, and never really cleaned up properly.
