Squats are back to where they were the last time I peaked already and the bench is 2 weeks out from potential pb. Got pb on deads for reps today, and that was off blocks, so my actual dead rep pb will also have gone up.

All in all, a good week Happy

Well you only ever seem to post when you have something negative to say towards him.
(For example "Lots of reds")

I think if you took the time to actually read my comments, including the punctuation, you would then understand the thought processes and meaning behind how they were written.

As for defending Toby - he is more than capable of doing that by himself. All I have done is ask why you are behaving in a negative fashion towards him.

If you think that any of my comments were aimed at you, whilst on TOBY's training journal, before you started this inane to-ing and fro-ing, then you are greatly mistaken. My comments are for TOBY. If you think that they are aimed at you, whilst on his journal, then you must have a higher opinion of yourself than I originally thought.

You seem to be taking any comments made completely out of context.

Can I ask why you are behaving in such a negative way towards Toby online?

BK - Well I certainly didn't and I was posting to Toby on his training log, sharing my thoughts with him.
I find it more than a little irksome when people claim to have the perfect training method that works for everyone, or indeed those who profess to have unlimited knowledge of all things strength/fitness related. This claim will never be accurate, since as human beings who are (or should be) individuals we all respond to stimuli in differing ways.
I'm a firm believer in the saying "if it isn't broken, don't fix it." Toby has had a successful few months of training and I am congratulating him on such, nothing else.

Singles can be very effective - I incorporate them into my squatting most weeks. All submaximal so as not to fry my CNS. I'm already back up to 200 which is only 7.5k off the Scottish record at my weight class.
I think that everyone will respond to different training methods based on a multitude of factors such as body weight, height, fat distribution, diet, age...the list goes on.
There is NOT one formula that will give maximum results for all lifters. You go with what works and ignore the people too small minded and insular to try things other than their own programme in their own little world. Afterall, there is only one way to find out if something works or not and that is to test it on yourself. Over the years I have tried many different approaches to training. I have now figured out exactly what works for me in 2 of the 3 lifts. Only deadlift left to crack but that seems to be 75% of the way there now... Still, I have tried more than one method and settled on what works for me.
At the end of the day, if you're lifting more than some of these inbreeds, keep going bud. Happy

6@160 raw, 3@175, 2@185, 1@190, 1@195

5x6@105, 6@107.5

Bench still feeling stronger though a slight niggle in weak shoulder when returning bar to rack.

3x3 @ 165 raw on 25 and 15k plates then 2x3 same weight from same height belted

2x3 @ 105

I know that the weights I'm using for deadlift are higher than they should be as I'm basing the percentages on my 1rep max from the floor. I'm going to dispense with the 15k plates from next week as when I had to put the belt on I found it very difficult to get down to the bar. I'll keep the 15s there for the warm up sets though, and maybe add them back in for the sets after the triples. 7 more weeks on this programme then test my 1rep max. Hopefully be higher than the 220 I'm basing this cycle on.

Cheers bud Happy I'm hoping to have this cold burnt out by tomorrow. Only started late on last night but I've been hammering the vit c and it seems to be lifting already Happy

Cheers Ross.

This'll be a funny one - the shortest guy in the gym with the widest grip. Even Allen is moving his in now. If I can get up above 6x6@112.5 (done 5x6@115) then I'll know the new hand positioning is definitely working for me. Last night I felt totally different through set up to completion of each set - just so much more stable and my arch held a lot easier. 105 6x6 on Saturday me thinks.

I know what a bugger a shoulder problem can cause on the bench - hence why I haven't been wider than pinkies on rings for so long. As long as you make the transition gradually it should be fine though. Happy

6@157.5 raw, 1@172.5, 1@ 182.5, 4@167.5, 2x5@167.5, 6@167.5

6x6@102.5 (sixth rep on each set paused)

Wider grip on bench seems to be working now and I feel more "locked in" throughout the movement and my line is better than last week. Will be interesting to see how far I can go with the 6x6.
