Big news for my training - After finally accepting that I need to train more like a powerlifter I've sorted out training with the best - Big Andy Bolton! Grin Grin Grin

Tonight was my first session at Ralls with the big man and I'm genuinely excited about where this is going to take my lifting. Andy is also a really sound bloke!

Squats
  • 180kg x 5
  • 180kg x 5
  • 180kg x 5

    With reverse bands
  • 200kg x 5
  • 220kg x 5

All snappy

Deadlift

    From blocks
  • 160kg x 5
  • 210kg x 3
  • 210kg x 3
  • 210kg x 10

    From the floor
  • 185kg x 3
  • 185kg x 3

Solid session and I'm feeling good about where things might go from here, there's a great crew down a Ralls and I feel pretty privileged to be training with them!

I need to work on my deadlift speed as any illusions I may have had about being snappy off the floor where completely shattered when I saw Andy go for it! I don't think I can stand up without any weight as fast as he rockets up with a few hundred kg's Eek Eek

Assistance work tomorrow (hark at me - I'm a proper powerlifter now Happy)

Have you got any depleted uranium lying around? That would work well...

N.B. Weights could be 2.5kgs higher as this was using the bar Robbo claims to be 22.5 Wink

Ignore robbo, he is a girl for including that weight - do you really want to debase yourself in such a way?

TravisFandango said:Personally, I fail to see what's gay about spending time with a group of men, all pulling hard and getting covered in sweat and white stuff!
You'll be trying to tell me that having a shaven head and a moustache looks 'gay' next. Ludicrous!

The shaven head and moustache are only 'gay' if complimented by copious amounts of leather (namely vests and chaps)

Would your workouts improve if everything was chocolate?

Say choco-tacky on a giant easter egg stone, flipping a chocolate frosted doughnut or maybe a chocolate log (sounds a bit wrong that one).

So what is your favourite food to eat before you workout?

What helps make your workout great?

For me its dates or some of those fabulous baking boys flapjacks (usually 2-3 of them)

(Im waiting for JC to appear and mention chocolate milk Grin )

Nice one, I just need to decide what area to work in now haha! Where are you based?

Live in yorskhire now but work near Nottingham. Went to uni in Edinburgh though but no money in water in Scotland. Oil is the biggest employer for process and also pays the best.

very true but i think you'll be ok when it comes to oil running out, thinks there a few more decades to go yet with the west of shetland, fields, brazil, east coast america and canada all starting to produce and field new feilds.
you must find some sights working with the water board

Yeah they have started calling water 'blue gold' so in time it will pay off. Fortunately I dont work for any of the water utilities Im a contractor who designs the new plants and my company then builds them. But I do see some quite odd things - especially on sewage works...

your in the wrong industry mate, oil industry process engineer is raking it in, working on day rate

Yeah I know oil is where the money is, everyone at uni did it (some guys started on 33K from uni). But I find water more interesting and I get me a company car and dont have to work in Aberdeen/Grangemouth. My mate at uni once met a consultant who was on 100 an hour. Long term though water will be a good earner once we run out of it...
