Joni Purmonen: Log Press 1RM addict.

Training today:

Log press (1st rep cleaned):

70kg x 6
80kg x 4
90kg x 2
100kg x 2
100kg 4 x 5

Log rows:

100kg x 4
110kg x 2
120kg x 6

pretty pleased with the pressing. was meant to be 5x5 but the 4th set was a bit messy and I didnt want any failed lifts so I just left it there. I find that with log press if I keep my form I can just keep on repping but if I come out of my groove on one rep it just snowballs and ruins the set.

my back was still sore from deadlifting and I kept getting wierd muscle cramps around my rib cage so I only did one set of rows and left it.

id never tell you to shut up mate. all advice is welcomed and appreciated. after all youve been there bought the t-shirt, retired and made a comeback and ive barely even cut my teeth yet.

I was thinking of doing maybe 4-5 weeks heavy gym training then 4-5 weeks heavy events and alternating like that. what do you reckon?

Nice benching JC! the 140 and 150 looked like warmups and the 160 didnt look far away at all.

Unless I get a rush of blood next weekend I think ill be conceding too. im only on the first week of my deadlift routine and I dont want to mess up my chances of beating joni and pete even if its only for pride now!

U`d be mugging yourself if u do another novice mate Wink
As far as ur training plan goes well i`m going to
be contriversial & say i think it`s not the right
way to go.
Keep with your heavy gym stuff but do lightish event
work.Afterall its the events u do in a comp.
If i were u i`d hit the events now mate.
I know s**t anyway but i thought i`d just try & be
different Grin

I think your right about the novice. even if I placed well I dont think it would mean much to me. are you still thinking about running a 105 comp this year will? that would be definately considered also.

the idea with my training plan was to get my deadlift to a half decent level (250+) and I was hoping the extra strength would carry over to my events? My deadlift always seems to stall when im event training.

lol I thought as much! as far as comps go its all up in the air at the moment. the 105 comps dont seem to be confirmed yet so its hard to make a plan. comps im considering are:

- cully intermediate.
- londons strongest man u105 (if it goes ahead)
- psma showlifting (if it goes ahead)
- unit 20 (if it goes ahead)
- viking tom u105 (if it goes ahead)
- UKs? havent seen any details yet but any chance to avenge my defeats against you and im there!

im 90% sure im done with the novices. If I do one itll be severn valley but if the london 105 comp goes ahead I definately wont do it as the dates are close. itll be my last novice if I do end up doing it. what about you?

And the russian madness begins again!

Training today:

Deadlift (belt):

161kg x 5
183.5kg x 3
206kg 2 x 1
183.5kg 3 x 3
161kg x 5

Front squat (belt):

100kg x 3
110kg x 2
120kg 2 x 2

STILL not feeling great but my back felt strong and explosive so, as rob suggested, maybe the rest has done me some good. Nothing too challenging on the fronties as deadlift is the proirity.
