I'd take that with a pinch of salt, though...

Awesome lifting on the one arm DB press. I'm gonna have a go at those bad boys. Is it like in WSM where you use two hands to bring it up and one hand to press? Also, do you drop it back to the floor betwixt reps or should you just shoulder it?

98kgs. I am, however, a smidgen over 6 foot 7, so as you can imagine most of my failures in pushing decent numbers in the squat and bench come down to:

1) Having a mile to travel to reach the required reversing point.
2) Being made of pipe cleaners and bendy straws.
3) Being weak as a kitten and not much good at either.

I am, however, entertaining the idea of squatting more than once a week. And getting the old belt back on for squats irresepctive of that after the 1s cycle of this 531.

» Why can't the Americans squat properly? (Go to post)23-05-2011 @ 17:26
People want to see records broken at every meet.

Once someone breaks a record it creates a rod for their back to a ceratin degree, insomuch as everyone just seems to expect lifts to go in one direction only. Unfortunately, there are federations out there who seem happy to make sure that happens every meet, irrespective of how.

But it doesn't mean that Americans cannot squat.

Military Press (3s Wave)

Worked up to 9 x 42.5kg

Military 5 x 10 x 32.5kg - Revelatory moment that looking up really seems to help this lift.

Lat Pulldowns 4 x 8 x 11 plates

CSR 3 x 6 x 45kg - Really hard machine this - must mean it's working.

Lat Machine Abs 3 x 15
Parallel bar leg raises 3 x 10

Ah, the SPF - the go to for anyone who wants to bash equipped lifting or American powerlifting in general. The SPF gets a ton of heat from internet tough guys, other powerlifters and fans/enemies of powerlifting in general, so I'll levave that be for the moment.

The heavily loaded question here is "Why can't Americans squat properly?", when it is patently obvious that they can.

That some choose to squat high and that some federations choose to allow people to squat high is apparent, but to be honest I think America has just about the biggest wealth of strength athletes in the world.

If it wasn't for the pisspoor money in strength sports (especially compared to the megabucks assoicated with American Football, Baseball, et al.) people like yourself would be asking the question "Why can only Americans hold world records?"

Personally I think a lot of this comes down to the fact that everyone hates a winner and Americans do hold loads of records right now in PL. Konstantinov breaks a world record (a self confessed juicer) and everyone jumps on his groin to proclaim his greatness. Stan Efferding breaks a world record and even his own country men slate him for being on the gear, using a monolift, not having a name from Dr Zhivago.

Some shallow Americans squatting:

Stan Efferding:

Pat Mendes (or anyone from Average Broz for that matter):

Mike Tuscherer:

And they're just the champions. I'm sure there are a thousand others on youtube or on powerliftingwatch. Your sweeping statement sounds to me like playing to the gallery on here.

As I don't have microloaders would you recommend going over or under the figures in that Russian Squat generator?

Thanks very much. Rather than the usual greying out I experience after a heavy lift, I actually had the new and interesting flanging sensation to my hearing. Confused I had a sit down after that.
