Got to the gym this morning and the free weights were closed as the floor was unsafe?

Unit in the evening instead

15inch deads on landrover tyres, had planned on 18inch 230 kg, 5 reps+, so just allowed a little bounce between reps

190kg for 5reps, 215kg for 5reps, 230kg for 6reps

few kettle bell swings and calfs, rubbish

It may hinder them, especially after he seemed so bloody smug at the Iraq enquiry

I also hate him because he snuck more religious schools all over the place

I'd think about reseting your maxes on the 531, that way on your 1 week you will be pulling a heavy double or maybe only a single
» Training first thing in the morning? (Go to post)29-03-2010 @ 11:13
During the week I train at 7.30am, pretty much on my own, in a gym playing JLS lady GAGA. However I don't really like "getting up for it", I don't use smelling salts, or like being smacked in the face before a lift, I like to keep it low key, so this set up suits me fine. I like training in the morning, feel like it sets me up well for the rest of the day, and I would struggle to motivate myself to lift after sitting at work all day, then going to a packed gym

I'm Martin, and I train at Unit 20 on Sundays and the Edinburgh Uni gym through the week, following a 5,3,1 template plus events on Sunday

I've done 1 comp, a novice at Unit 20 last April, but haven't competed since largly due to injury.

Going forward I have signed up for the Bernard Castle comp, and will be doin the UK Northern Scottish qualifier as my first open comp after that

Enough s**t, todays training:

Log 85kg-5 reps, 90-5 reps, 100-7 reps. Trying to jerk these, but I think I dip about an inch

Yoke 260kg, 5 runs of the 15m coarse, with no rest,74secs saw this recomended by Terry Hollands, and it seemed to make sense. Weight was no problem, but breathing became murder on the last run, but no drops(apart from turning at the ends)

Arm over arm, big chain + 80kg on a sled, 15m in 19secs. Will increase the weight slowly on this, hopefully keeping the time under 20secs. The UK Northern event has a 2 chain arm over arm, which is prety heavy

Finished off with some military log, 60kg, 5 sets, 10 reps, and curls 14kg, 5 sets, 12 reps

Fell a bit like hell now, the yoke will likely f**k me for a week!

whats his other lifts?

think over 200 squat, 240ish dead, 160 front squat

but this may all be irrelevant as I don't think he has actually entered!!!

as Brian said earlier, guys can have big numbers, but if they don't do strongman training, they can be made to look pretty silly come comp time

Maybe he thought he would just be able to pitch up on the day, not realising that a Unit 20 comp attracts entrants from across the UK!

Ken, do you know if Goose is gonna be fit?

Yeah Ken, have to say, when I saw those events, thought you'd be in the mix. A rep dead and squat is brutal though, do you think you will be able to hang with Stuart Bell on those 2?

Joni, just watched the video you posted of the last time you did this comp. Looked really good, and looked as though there were hundreds of spectators, the steam show must be a big thing.

I've done one comp, at unit 20, where there were about 20 people watching, this will be a serious jump in intensity! I can't wait!
