aye, pretty much always, unless i do yoga instead!

Adam deadlifts on tuesdays, but thats close to 7pm.

For me it is board presses and a lot talking (3x10).

7pm isn't bad for me. So the rest of you get in earlier?

Jesus, even I don't get into arguments like this. Not these days anyway - I've learnt my lesson.

My contribution to this discussion will just be to observe that I fully agree with Haris that powerlifting is all about science, and not remotely about art. What people mean when they say "training is as much art as it science" is usually that there are many areas where no one has a definitive answer - either because different things will work for different people or because we haven't reached the stage where conclusions can confidently be drawn. But it's still science.

Do you always train at Sugden on Tuesdays? I might come down one evening and deadlift there, especially now the weight's getting heavier and it'll be good to have someone shouting at me.

When I was deadlifting at Total Fitness on Tuesday there was a woman who was ostentatiously covering her ears because of the noise when I put the bar down. I wasn't even dropping it. She was some kind of trainer, teaching this guy to do horrible clean and jerks.

Any thoughts for what I should do next week?

Maybe 175 for 5 singles (probably quite hard) or maybe 150/160 off platform.. don't really want to bother doing doubles.

"Probably quite hard" sounds a bit feeble. If you think you can do it (and I think you think you can), then do it. Then take a week off from deads, then pull 190 the week after. Jesus, I'd better add some kg to my deadlift at this comp!

badboy is a qualified BAWLA/IPF judge! And we could rotate judging, though harris is pretty strict with squat depts i hear Wink

tokar, good points about making sugden accommodate the comp, lol!

Seems a bit unfair to have different judges on different lifts. And if Badboy was judging, who would judge Badboy if he was competing?

The 92.5kg bench press looks a bit of a joke now as well, with 85x3x5 this week. Should be good for 100kg.

Shay Given is one of the best goalkeepers in the Premiership and a Republic of Ireland international. He is excellent.

unless you dedicate a whole extra session to biceps, perhaps on thursdays? This way you could hit them from every angle using Weider principles.

Markus Ruhl does actually do a biceps day. By that logic you'd expect a quads day, a hamstrings day and a calves day but apparently he finds time to train all these minor muscles together.

Interesting. 'Operation Pert Pecs' may kick into action soon.

I'm thinking flat dumbell press or maybe even inclines twice a week on upper body days. Sadly this may mean lowering the bicep volume.

Surely what you need are declines, to target those lower pecs, so they stand out more in contrast to the developing paunch.

I think the "sexy" Irish accents are the southern ones mate, not the Ian Paisley ones.

I quite like the idea of Sugden really, partly because it is Sugden Barbell after all, and also precisely because Sugden is so manifestly unsuited to holding a powerlifting competition. I think forcibly co-opting the gym for a meet would be great!

The bench is a definite negative though, cos it is s**t. And fun though it might sound in theory, it might be a bit of a nightmare in practice.

What about judges? Anyone thought of that?

Sounds good to me. I definitely want one.

There is something in Veganlifter's recommendation I think. As long as there is a contrast between your chest and your stomach you will be OK. Personally I am just about managing to maintain this at the moment but it is something that needs constant monitoring.

The addition of Tony's 200kg suited squat pushes things towards controversy....
