Just a reminder that there is a still a week left to enter this competition if you haven't already done so.

Lots of great stories so far, but room for more - top three all win prizes!

Some cracking entries already, it's going to be hard to judge!

I remember taking the video of your lift Andy; glad I let the camera roll - nice to capture some old-school Alan banter!

Also remember being present at Rhinos' for Pete's lift - it was packed and the atmosphere was terrific, what a lift to end the day on.

Thanks! The others did say I was good for more, but the 400 took a lot out of me mentally, so I called it quits with the competition only a few weeks away. Sadly I would never go higher than that.

Not "lifting" anymore, but maybe one day! Cool

Interesting exercise, but we're after your own lifts Danny! Please see my story above as a little example. Cheers!

My story (although I'm excluded from the draw!).

182.5kg/400lb Squat, April 2007, Adlington

My 400lb squat felt like a real milestone at the time, and is the lift I'll always be most proud of.

I'd started training with the guys at Sugden (mainly Olly, Joni, Rick and Adam - and sometimes Jo, Haris and Tokar) the summer before, after training by myself for a few years beforehand and making very little progress. I progressed fairly rapidly from where I started, both in terms of lifts and bodyweight, bulking up from 80kg to around 107kg at the time of the lift.

With my first competition looming (the BWLA North West Unequipped) I then started training at Adlington Barbell where I met many fine fellows including Little_a, FatPete (or was it FitPete?) and Wigan. With advice from legendary coach Alan Fairclough and encouragement from my (brilliant) training partner Boar I managed to push my squat on pretty quickly and smashed through my old PBs week on week - when I squatted the 400lber I'd never been above 160kg so it really was a big PB for me. I managed to get into a really good zone for the lift, far more so than any other lift I did before or after.

Aside from the 400lb squat being one of the most obvious milestones for any lifter (not many blokes in the average gym would ever come close to it, although we are used to much bigger due to the many beasts on Sugden), it also meant a lot because it took me past Olly's squat PB - and Olly was a lifter who I looked up to and was lucky to receive a lot of advice from in the early days. Sadly he would later surpass my PB before retiring, albeit in questionable circumstances with no-one watching.

That's my story! Thanks to those present on the night; Boar, Ironback, Rick and Olly, who all gave excellent encouragement.

Our sponsors at Protein Dynamix (some of you may recognise them from their sponsorship of Eddie Hall) have generously agreed to run a competition with us that is dead easy to enter, and will hopefully generate a really good thread.

How to Enter
All you have to do is tell us about your favourite lift ever (please include a YouTube video where possible) and in 3 weeks time (Monday 23rd Nov) we'll pick three winners.

We're not looking for the 'biggest' lift ever (though that won't do any harm), but after inspirational stories - maybe it was a landmark lift you'd spent years working towards, or it was a lift that helped you win a competition. It doesn't matter if it was done in training or in competition.

Prizes
1st Prize: Tub of Dynamo Pre-Workout, Box of Dynabars, Shaker & T-Shirt
2nd: Box of Dynabars & T-Shirt

The signup process involves manual validation to help prevent trolls and spam-bots signing up. As McM rightly says, this does result in some potential members not bothering to follow through, so it is a bit of a trade-off.

I would like to increase the member activity again as we do have a lot of lurkers, so keen to listen to any suggestions.

Tokar, RIP.

» Ron Collins Powerlifter (Go to post)12-06-2015 @ 14:45
Received an email from an old-time lifter, Eric Redfern, discussing his old training partner. I think Eric is nearly 80, so it's great he took the time to write in, so I wanted to share it on the forum.

-------------

I have the privilege and pleasure of being ron collins trainng partner , fellow competitor in both olympic and power lifting for 15 years,
i was instrumental in coaching Ron to become an army cadet force PTI this ran alongside him becoming a part time teacher for
manchester education committee teaching and training budding olympic and power lifters,
i rember just beating him very narrowly in a power lifting competion, my one and only claim to fame.and proberly one of the few people
who have ever beaten Ron a memory i will treasure along with our freindship for as long as i live..
I lost contact with ron after his move to south africa which i bleave he became extremly sucessful in a number of areas,
I have many happy memories he is a great guy and its a privlage to call him my freind..

Sounds like Ron Collins was a great lifter - found the following article on him:

Yes, it's all from scratch.
