potentially going to be doing a strongman cintest which has a yoke event.

problem is potentially only going to get to practice once or twice with an actual yoke. I train at around 5:45am in a commercial gym to squeeze training in before setting off for work.

what can I do between infrequent yoke sessions each week in the gym to improve my performance of this event?

You can't really.

The first time I ever did yoke was in a comp, and I made a right meal of it. I thought that because I was good at farmer's I'd be OK. Totally different.

calf press on the leg press machine , barbell walkouts with similar comp weight to get used to the pressure/getting tight , barbell lunges hixxy style/technique to work individual leg stability

a few sessions on it should see some big improvements. I always think yoke has a more of a mental aspect to it than it appears. when I first started training it it was easy to start thinking about how heavy the weight was a forget to move my feet quick.

However, load the squat rack to get used to standing up with weights on your back that you wouldnt squat with or the yolk will give you a panic attack on the dayWink

Dont be afraid to stick 260-300 on the bar and hold it as long as you can before re-racking

Tbh those 1 or 2 training sessions if you can get ot them will save your ass.

My first ever attempt at Yoke was in a comp. Only 160kg and i was crap. Dropping it all over the place.

Second time was heavier and easier.

Only thing you can really do in a normal gym is unrack heavy weights and hold it.

cheers. doing heavy walk outs was on my mind.

potentially was more thinking of whats the limiting issue strenfth wise.

same way people say heavy rront squats can carryover to stones etc?

I absolutely died with 310 my first go in a comp but after a couple of training sessions improved massively.

The limiting issue is getting your nervous system to realise that all that weight wont crush yaWink

you are probably strong enough already. as above^ its your brain that will tell you your not. only way to get over that is to practice on an actual yoke.
