I just hope I am never in the position where i feel i have to 'Millsy'

is there a knack to keeping yourself on the seat when you are putting so much power down ?

I do take offence to that!

I remember someone doing a Millsy on a 45 second row only last week...

Impressive 100m time though.

At least you didn't do a Dudley!

Use the indignation to fuel the sub6.30 fire.

I count my strokes, so in your position I would of known about 40 to go count them down in 10's hang on hang on.

This is where a HR monitor could of helped also, If you were redlining slowing and HDing would be wise.

If you were still in relative comfort zone 170bpm say, dig in and finish off

the way i do 2000m is to start with 5 strong pulls , get onto the desired pace and just block everything out and look forward to 500m to go it should be in the bag ....hang on until the last 200m and then count down each stroke

I used to do 1500m at 2km pace ....nailing it is a good confidence boost as anyone can hang on for 500m

as for HR monitor on an older C2 , i used to have an old school polar watch / chest strap and have the watch in view.

Good tips chaps. I just need to toughen up and build some resilience on it. I’m sure it will come.

I will try counting stroked like you say.

Just realised how similar our 9 (for me) and 10 (for you) minute efforts are.

Mp pb 10 was done at 1.44.4 I used to dream of doing 5k at that pace (sub7 I think of it) My knees are creaking a bit but I live in hope of getting there.

Today ERG

20 mins 4804m 19 128

20 mins 4808m 19 135

Was planning on 3 but Boy interrupted the 2nd rep desperately needing help with his "new" invention

That’s a great 10 minute PB. I was referring g to your most recent effort though.

I lock the garage door when I go in there because I inevitably get interrupted by at least one of the little blighters if I don’t!

I sort of knew what you meant it was just a shameless chance to mention some nostalgia. If I locked him out it would be like the Shining. Plus I needed the tiny breeze

Roasting rowing today

10mins 2369m 21 128

1min 354m Lifetime pb finally faster than 500pb pace

5x1m 1mr

301m 301m 301m 300m 300m that was all I had at that pace

10mins 2235m 21 140

That ranks me 9th!!!!!! of the 8 in front of me 7 have listed their heights "smallest" is 6'3" Grin

The joys of parenthood! For me it's garage door open to attempt to not boil alive, door into garage locked so no child interference. It's a win-win for me.

Excellent rowing, JT. Must be close to a 500m PB if you can hold on.

What is the aim of the sessions you are doing recently? Are you working on your power for 500m and 1k rows? You seem to be doing lots of short duration, sprinting. Or is it just to mix it up with some of the longer pieces you are doing too?

I thought my chances of Pbs at shorter stuff were long gone like most of my power, however recent rows have proved knowledge and pacing is important too imagine if I had both at the same time!!!
To answer your question while the knees are still reasonably good I aim to break my Pbs from the bottom up as it were!

Roasting today no air-con, if we had a couple of months every year of hot weather I may consider it.

ERG
10mins 2415 21 126

3x100 15.8 16 16 not there today sadly so onto different torture

14minutes

3817m 1.50.0 29 171

This was awful hit 170hr before halfway, had to slow a little to avoid the dreaded "millsy" but managed to pull it back in the last 2 mins

10mins 2170m

Going to treat myself to a day off work tomorrow so I can catch up with all my jobs at home.

You must have visited Oz with the wife ? anyhoo , i really got sick of the superb super hot weather , it can be very offensive , dashing inbetween buildings , air con a must have , Although i think it was because i was a young nobend , it might be quite nice as a middle age gentleman enjoying the easy life.

I am not one for doing 'times' over distances , seems to work for you though !
