when squating i like the mirror there so i can see im goin deep enough.

is it better though when doing clean and jerk to have a mirror or not? Do they use them in oly lifting? When the gym is busy people some times like to walk in front of me and my mirror. quite off putting

We have mirrors infront of the rack, and I thought it was better, but infact my form is better with no mirror. I end up moving my head position to look at tech and it knocks my line.

You wont get a mirror in front of you at comps, so it is good to learn to do it without imo.

If you feel it helps you improve tech then great for training, but you still need to be able to do it without too

I had been practising the caveman press (btn jerk) for a comp in front of a mirror, on the day of the comp, shat myself that I couldn't see myself, and nearly failed the opening weight (which was like 40kgs under my max),

I think you should try and do everything without a mirror, at least some of the time

I think for certain exercises like, squats, cleans, snatches etc. I think it's generally better to look forward and slightly up.

I think if you were to change your reference point to look at yourself in a mirror then this "could" affect the lift fairly dramatically. Whether it did would be all dependent on whether you can still keep you head in exactly the same position and just move your eyes - I'd be surprised if this was the case though.

Stop checking yourself out in the mirror. If you have no option but to face a mirror then do not focus in yourself. U use a poster to cover up mirror when squatting.

But its cool when you're looking in the mirror during squats and you can see the bar bending slightly over your shoulders Grin

Your better off not looking in the mirror and getting someone to watch from the side to monitor yor depth after a while your get the feel of how deep you are going.
Even go a far as squating blindfolded so you get the feel of the correct depth with someone shouting ''up when you have hit the correct depth.
train your mind as well as your body in the execution of the movement. Happy

I hate it when gyms put mirrors in front of squat racks. It's wrong.

You get reliant on it and when you have to lift without a mirror you get completely cocked up.

Plus, if you're good looking (like the General, JC, Boar) you end up just checking yourself out.

Just got back from the gym and after reading this earlier decided to lift facing away from mirror for the first time. (Hard because of mirrors on all walls).

Oh my f**king god... Weight felt unbalanced for some reason, couldn't get near maxes and overall s**t session. This was squats and overhead.

I really need to ditch mirrors quickly.
